Mounjaro pen clicks - how many?

So, these Mounjaro pens... if they're, say, a 7.5mg pen, does that mean they only work for 4 shots? Or does it depend on the dose? Like, could I get more doses if I'm only doing 3mg per shot? Confused!

If you're hitting 24 draws and desperate to fiddle with the stopper, honestly a pen solves all that without creating new headaches.

Think of it like this: the pen has enough clicks for a certain amount of medicine total. How you divide that up is your call (well, yours and your doctor's!).

If you only use half the medication in your pen you actually get double the amount of doses. So if you get 10mg pen but only use 5mg, you can extract the remainder by using an insulin syringe. If you keep the used pen in the fridge, it will last until the displayed expiration date.

Yup, there's usually a bit extra in the pen that you can get with a syringe. And keeping it in the fridge helps it last longer.

The golden dose is hard to get out. I finally forced the clicker as much as I could and was successful! I had two pens in the icebox with extra in them that I was not able to extract. I tossed one pen which was a mistake because it has doses in it left :( Luckily I got a 5mg pen but am still on 2.5mg. It's taken weight off slowly since I am not obese but have pcos and high insulin resistance and fibromyalgia and decided to take matters into my own hands. I have lost belly fat and some weight. MJ has been amazing for me.

I used the golden dose from my 2.5mg pen lately because so much gets wasted during priming... My pharmacist showed me how to crank the dial to get the extra dose out. It worked like a champ!

Thanks for all the comments... So much to take in. I'm pleased I managed to source needles to extract the golden dose as my doc refused to prescribe the needles.

The kwikpen is meant for a single use. Once you've given yourself the shot, the pen is done for. It's not like an insulin pen that can be used for several doses. The number on the pen says how much is in that single injection. Also, watch your electrolytes! I take unflavored drops to stay hydrated. Rotate your injection sites, refrigerate pens until you need them, and if a pen isn't working right, contact your pharmacy.

So, you're saying I can keep using the same pen even after the first injection, as long as I keep it cold?

I think what @Mel93 is saying is that you're only *supposed* to use it that way, but a lot of us are figuring out how to get more doses out of it. It's not officially recommended!

Most people say around 100 days max if you keep it cold. Main thing is contamination risk when you swap needles each time - bacteria can sneak in from the air.
