Mounjaro wrecked me, Ozempic next?

Even if you're not dealing with pancreatitis symptoms (did you get checked for that?), I'd guess your doc might be wary about prescribing another GLP-1 after that reaction to Mounjaro. But honestly, I'd still ask if I were you.

Having been on these meds for over a year now and feeling like they've saved my life, I'd try everything to stay on one before giving up completely. Sadly, some folks just can't handle them. Hopefully, that's not the case for you.

If you decide to try semaglutide, maybe start with an even tinier dose than the usual 0.25mg, just to see how your body reacts.

Since semaglutide tends to have a stronger GLP-1 impact than tirzepatide, I'd be concerned that semaglutide would cause even worse side effects. Did you talk to your doctor about lowering the dose of Mounjaro? I was on 10mg of tirzepatide and now I'm at 5mg. I haven't hit my goal weight and might not ever, but the side effects at 10mg weren't worth it. I feel a lot better at 5mg now.

I had diarrhea on 2.5 and 5, but by the time I got to 7.5 it wasn't as bad. I had to skip a week before a procedure, and the doctor said I could just go back to 7.5mg after. But I got super sick, ended up in the ER from constant diarrhea and then throwing up. Then the doctor said I could try 7.5 again the next week and I'd probably be fine, but I went back to 5mg instead. Still got sick. So he said skip a week and go down to 2.5, but now I'm too scared to. He thought it was all a weird reaction.

I understand why you're scared. If you're using compounded, you can start at 1.2mg for a month, then increase by 1.2 to 1.3mg every month. That might help you avoid getting sick again. Going forward, remember that if you get to a higher dose and have to stop, even briefly, you need to slowly adjust back up. This all assumes that the benefits of tirzepatide are worth the side effects, which you'll probably still have even if you follow my advice and even if my advice helps. You might decide it's not worth it. I read that after being off tirzepatide for a week (two weeks between doses), you can usually restart at the last dose. But that obviously doesn't apply to you. Good luck.

I can totally relate to the starting and stopping issues. I was on sema a while back, then stalled and tried tirzepatide with zero progress. Had a gastric sleeve since then and gained back some of the weight. I restarted sema today--technically my third time around. Hoping the sleeve and sema will work together this time!

Good luck! I've found that the second time around on sema can be easier because you already know what to expect. It's like your body remembers how to respond.

Thanks for all the info Doc_Queen and Vinnie1986. I'm still nervous but maybe I'll try the super low dose if the doc agrees.

I've read that some people have better luck with Reta. Anyone have direct experience with it? I know we can't talk about specific sources, but generally speaking, is it worth considering if sema and tirzepatide aren't working out?

Different companies make these. Novo Nordisk does the sema products, Eli Lilly handles the tirzepatide line. Easy to mix up with all the names floating around.

had to drop 30 to qualify for surgery. crazy enough, then insurance changed the rules mid-wait and wanted another 65 off. ended up at a different hospital a year later. insurance gates are wild.
