My A1c miracle!

A word of caution: health issues regarding weight can be complex. I've been on 2mg of a GLP-1 med for almost 3 years due to really elevated glucose levels. When I began, my A1C was a scary 9.7, and my fasting glucose was crazy high, like 270-310. Some of it was due to other meds, and some to low insulin. I've managed to drop about 55 pounds so far, but that's not the real victory. My BMI went from 56 to 47. I'm also eating like a normal person again, which is why I think the weight is finally coming off. Before, I was barely eating due to anorexia. The REALLY good news? I told my old doctor that my goal was to get my A1C back to normal. She laughed and said it couldn't happen. Well, my awesome new doctor just told me I'm at 5.7! I'm not officially diabetic anymore, although I still need the medication to keep my A1C good. So happy it's helped with both my diabetes and the anorexia. ❤️

That's amazing news! So glad for you. Just remember, you're still technically diabetic, it's just controlled by the meds. Keep it up!

Fantastic news! So happy to hear that. I bet you feel a million times better physically. And the fact that your doctor said it was impossible to bring down your A1C enough to not be considered diabetic is a good reason to get a new doctor, which I'm glad you did. That must have been so discouraging. I went from a 10.8 to a 5.1 with just diet and metformin. Not trying to brag, but your doctor was wrong to say that to you.

This is amazing! I'm surprised your doctor thought it was impossible, though. Please don't think I'm trying to minimize your success!! My A1C was 11, and after a year on 1 mg of a similar medication (not Ozempic), it's been at 5 for 3 years now. It's kinda the main purpose of those meds, I'm surprised doctors don't know that. My aunt's doctor told her she wasn't diabetic anymore, so she stopped taking her meds, and her levels went right back up. We're still diabetic, the meds just keep it in check because our bodies can't make insulin correctly. I hope this doesn't come off as unsupportive. I love seeing success stories. I'm so happy you found a good doctor!

Congrats! 🎉 Just remember, a diabetes diagnosis is permanent. Managing it well is the goal, but it stays on your medical record.

That’s a great accomplishment! Congratulations!! I can't believe your old doctor would say that! Good thing you found a new one! I dropped 35 pounds and my A1c went from 6.5 to 5.6. My doctor was super supportive. I feel like I've been stuck for a few months now, not losing any more weight, but I'm okay with it. I see my doctor in a couple weeks. Amazing for you and me! ❤️🎉

I'm so encouraged by everyone's responses! I never thought it was possible, especially with the other health challenges I face. Thanks for all the support and positive vibes!

Hey, thanks!! I just got the green light to start the same medication, and I'm excited to see what happens!
Good luck! Don't get discouraged if it takes a little while. I had to adjust my dosage a few times before I found what worked for me.

I saw someone on Reddit mention how much their insulin sensitivity improved on these meds. They went from needing a ton of insulin daily to almost none. It's pretty amazing!

I can relate to that. I was on 70-110 units of a long-acting insulin daily, plus metformin. Now I'm off the insulin completely. I didn't use much fast-acting insulin, but I should have. It's been great. So glad it's working for others too. Best decision I've made, and the side effects are super minimal.

Wow, what a transformation some people are having! I saw some progress pics where someone lost a whole bunch of weight after being diagnosed with type 2. It's inspiring!
