My family is being a real downer...

Hong Kong Yanpep International
Went through something similar with my own mother not long ago. She made a whole production out of eating a full slice of cake while I only had half. She's aware of what I'm taking, but it seems to send her spiraling even harder around the topic of weight generally. She keeps drawing attention to my progress, and it's pretty clear those comments are really about her own long-standing body image struggles, even though she's at a completely typical weight herself. Honestly the whole dynamic stirs up a lot of embarrassment and guilt in me. Not surprising that my own hangups trace back to hers, but I really wish nobody had to bring up anyone's size or eating habits at all, and could just find peace with where we're each at. So yeah, I get exactly where you're coming from.

Before starting semaglutide, there was a friend who'd shut down completely any time exercise or weight training came up, a subject genuinely interesting at the time personally. She'd get fairly negative about it, occasionally angry, or steer the conversation elsewhere entirely, acting as if bringing it up was aimed at hurting her somehow, the way people who can't quite be happy for others sometimes react.

Six or seven weeks in now and some visible changes have already started, and honestly there's real dread about how this friendship handles it. Things are already a bit strained between us, and none of this seems likely to improve that, which is unfortunate.

There's been a lot going on over recent years, including a battle with depression, panic attacks, general anxiety, and an ongoing chronic condition, so this medication wasn't just about weight, there were other real health reasons involved too.

Can't control how someone else reacts, but going by history, it's probably not going to go well.
