Nausea or fullness? Zepbound weirdness

Okay, so I took my first shot of Zepbound and didn't notice any change in appetite. Yesterday was my second injection, and I put it in the back of my arm. Now I'm dealing with side effects. Here's the thing: I'm hungry and trying to eat lunch, but instead of feeling full, I just feel sick to my stomach. Is this typical?

I'm on sema currently, and even after months of slow dose increases, I get nausea pretty regularly. For me, it hits about a day after the injection. Nausea definitely kills appetite, but it's not fun. My doc gave me some anti-nausea meds, and I usually take one the morning after my dose.

So, is it normal? Yeah, it's a pretty common side effect. It might go away eventually for some. If it keeps happening, you'll have to decide if the benefits are worth it.

From what I've seen, tirzepatide users report fewer side effects. I haven't had any nausea on tirzepatide personally. Sema, on the other hand, gave me constipation and that super-full feeling that lasted for hours even after a tiny meal.

Also, I had dizziness that I haven't seen mentioned. It lasted almost a year and got so bad I needed a cane. It wasn't until I switched to tirzepatide that I realized it was the sema causing it, not the other meds I started at the same time.

Brook, did you start Zepbound at the usual 2.5mg dose? After a year, I switched from Wegovy/research semaglutide to research tirzepatide. I need at least 7.5mg of tirz to get the same appetite suppression as 2.4mg of sema, and I'll probably need 10mg soon. I'm surprised you're feeling appetite suppression at all. Hope you feel better soon!

The only times I've felt nauseous while/after eating is when I've gone too long without food. I think that's more from low blood sugar than the medication itself.

For example, last Friday I had an early appointment a couple hours away and skipped breakfast (which I almost never do), thinking I'd grab lunch early. The day got crazy, and I skipped lunch too. With these GLP-1s, I don't really feel hunger, so it was easy to keep going without thinking about it.

When I finally got home and made tuna, I felt nauseous after a few bites. Didn't throw up, but got sweaty and had to take deep breaths until it passed. I was fine the rest of the night and the next day, so it wasn't an illness, but it's happened before when I've gone too long between meals.

Just my two cents. If it keeps happening, try taking some meclizine an hour or so before eating to see if that helps.

Thanks for the responses! I actually started at 0.125. Then 2.5, then 2.5 again. So, technically, this is my third week.

UPDATE: This week, I injected the pen into the back of my arm instead of my stomach. The next day, I started feeling much fuller, and now the medicine is working how it's supposed to!

I've read that B-12 can sometimes help with the nausea some people experience on these meds. Has anyone tried that? I'm curious about the dosage and whether oral supplements are effective. I'm just starting out, so any tips are appreciated!

I definitely learned the hard way about overeating on this stuff. Now I portion everything onto a small salad plate – 1/4 carbs, 1/4 protein, and 1/2 veggies. Eating the protein first seems to help too. I still slip up sometimes, but it's much better than it was in the beginning.

That's great advice. It really is a learning process figuring out how much is too much. I've found that if I even *think* about not wanting another bite, I need to stop right there.

Thanks for the tips, everyone! I'll try the smaller plate thing and see if that helps. I really don't want to feel nauseous all the time! What can I do if I overeat? Is there a trick?

If you accidentally overeat, try sipping some water slowly and maybe taking a short walk. An antacid might help, too. If it's really bad, sometimes all you can do is wait it out.
