the backup option mentality is worth building in before you actually need it - the supply disruptions that happen during shortage periods or regulatory changes tend to be exactly when new sources are hardest to vet properly. having a secondary option you have already used and confirmed is a better position than scrambling for alternatives when your primary source is unavailable
