One year (early) on Mounjaro!

Wow, almost a year since I started Mounjaro. I was at my heaviest, around 200lbs at 5'6", back in October '23. Honestly, I'd gained like 60lbs in just a few months, and it was the worst I'd ever felt. My mom suggested Mounjaro after she had success. I spoke with my doctor and took my first 2.5mg shot on November 28th, 2023. It's like a switch flipped! I wasn't constantly craving food or eating to cope. That always-hungry feeling just disappeared.

I responded so well that I never needed more than 5mg. I steadily lost weight until I hit my target of 120lbs around May '24. I even got down to 113lbs after a stomach bug (wouldn't recommend that!), but now I'm stable between 115-125lbs and feeling good. Because I stretched out my doses and my doctor let me split pens to save some cash (with constant communication about dosage!), I have enough for a maintenance dose for a while. I know everyone isn't so lucky, so I'm happy to share my experience if people have questions.

This medicine has been life-changing. No more constant snacking, my joints feel better, I'm way more confident, and I don't feel held back by my weight. I get why people are hesitant, but it really has worked for me. Writing this is making me emotional because I genuinely thought I'd never feel good in my body again. If my story can help even one person, it's worth it. Ask me anything! It's been quite the journey. Here's to a year of freedom from food cravings!

I love reading posts like this! I'm only a few weeks in and sometimes I feel discouraged. These success stories really motivate me to keep going. Thanks for sharing!

Congrats! I'm also about 5'6" and used to weigh around 200. This might be an odd question, but I've always worried about losing too much breast tissue if I get below, say, 150. Can you talk about that experience? It's been a mental block for me when setting goals.

I'm getting teary-eyed reading this. I'm 5'6" and currently 190lbs, just took my first 2.5mg shot last Saturday. I was also at a low point, blaming my weight for everything. Reading these success stories gives me so much hope.

Did you start losing weight right away, like in the first month?

How did you maintain your skin elasticity? Also, nobody told me about staying on lower doses. I'm at 7.5 now and starting to feel hungry again. I know I need to eat, but it's scary, so I'm going up to 10mg and hoping that helps. My doctor just told me to increase every month, so I didn't question it. I'm in my 4th month and at 10mg. Hopefully, I can keep losing weight here. Also, how did you split doses? Mine come in those auto-injector pens. Insurance covers it for now, so it's only like $20 a month until I hit my deductible and then it's free. Thanks for sharing this!

It's definitely worth discussing with your doctor. Rapid dose escalation isn't always necessary, and staying at a lower effective dose minimizes potential side effects.

To answer a few questions!

Jenny31, yes, I did start losing weight in the first month. It wasn't a huge amount, maybe 5-7lbs, but it was enough to feel encouraged. And side effects were pretty mild for me, mostly just some occasional nausea.

DenverDiva22, about the skin thing, I honestly don't have any secret. I think genetics play a big role. I try to stay hydrated and use lotion, but that's about it. As for splitting doses, it's a bit complicated with the pens, and you definitely need to be careful and get instructions from your doctor.
