One year on! Still can't believe it!

Hey everyone! It's been a year since I started this journey on July 8, 2024. I'm a 50-year-old male with T2D. Started at 337 lbs, and now I'm at 189 lbs, with a goal of 175. I was diagnosed with T2D in 2022 when my A1C was 9.8. I got it under control for a while, but slipped back into bad habits in late 2023 and shot up to 337. When I started the meds, I made significant changes to my diet and sleep schedule. I responded really well to the meds, and the weight started dropping fast. I focused on protein, ate more fruits and vegetables, and cut out all added sugars, and kept carbs pretty low. I also started walking consistently after about two months. Then, I made a point to go to bed earlier and at a consistent time, which has helped a ton. About six months in, I started circuit training and upped my walking. My son talked me into doing a 5k race at the end of February, and now I've done three 5Ks with him. I even did my first 10K on June 29th at the Pictured Rocks road race and finished it in 1 hour and 10 minutes. Now training for a half marathon in December!

My A1C has been 5.2 or below for over half a year now. My doctor took me off metformin completely. I don’t have to use my CPAP anymore. My blood pressure and cholesterol are amazing. All my other health markers are perfect. I feel like I've totally gotten my health back, and it feels incredible.

I feel so much more confident now. I went from wearing 3XL/4XL shirts to medium shirts. I actually like having my picture taken now, which never used to happen. I have tons of energy and am way more active. I find myself smiling all the time.

The meds, combined with all these other changes, have really helped me turn my life around. I'm going to keep up these habits as I work toward my goal weight and try to maintain it. Make a real effort to make good changes and be consistent, and you'll get results that will make you happy.

Thanks to this awesome forum for all the great advice and motivation. My journey continues with all of you!

You're such an inspiration!

The shot along with other changes…
That's so true – the lifestyle changes are key. I need to really focus on that more. The medication just gives you a push, but you have to commit to the changes. Thanks for sharing your story!

Wow, that's amazing! Even seeing all the incredible stories on this forum, yours is seriously blowing my mind. So happy for you!

Wow! You look AMAZING! You look like you unzipped the fat suit and walked out of it! I can say this because I did it too! Liberated from the chains we once were burdened with! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Thanks everyone for the kind words! It really helps to stay motivated. I'm still working toward my goal weight, but even if I don't get there, I'm so much healthier than I was a year ago!
