Oops, made a GLP-1 food mistake!

So, I've been increasing my dose like the doc said. Took my shot Friday morn after breaky -- week 3 at this dose. Saturday felt great, then I shared brunch with a pal at this vegan place. We devoured 4 pastries - super sugary, oily, and fatty. Zero appetite after, just a light snack for lunch, then zilch till 5 pm when I nibbled on a brownie my bro baked.

OH. MY. GOD. The horror. Intense stomach cramps, so bloated, heartburn from hell. Couldn't get comfy ANY way, except flat on my back. Felt like my stomach was a volcano. Ate some peanut butter toast with a banana when I felt a lil better... dumb move! Puffed up like a balloon till I yakked -- felt a bit better after and could actually sleep with just minor discomfort.

But noooo, an hour later, pain city AGAIN. Tried to tough it out, but couldn't. Ended up with major diarrhea, then projectile vomiting all over the bathroom (new adult low: cleaning up your own puke ASAP).

So learn from my idiocy, peeps. Skip the greasy, sugary, fattening stuff for a few days post-shot (or just avoid it altogether).

It gets way better the longer you take it, I promise! I can eat whatever I want now, but I'm just getting full quicker.

Nine months on sema... lost a little over 90lbs. Haven't touched sweets since I began, and a few months in, cut out bread, fast food, even sauces. Protein shake in the A.M. keeps me chill till dinner, then I'll grab a few pretzel sticks for a snack. Besides shedding the pounds, it's helped my knee arthritis, reduced shoulder inflammation, and I've honestly never felt this good.

Been on sema for a year now, thankfully never felt sick. Hit my goal weight. Nothing has ever caused problems. Oily? Sugary? I work at a pizza joint. 😂 I consume way less 'cause I'm less hungry, but none of it's ever made me ill.

True, true. I usually just snack on shot days. I made the mistake of getting fast food with the kids. Tummy aches and all sorts of issues for 48 hours. A few antacids, a soda, and fetal position therapy for hours to burp and fart it all away, lol.

If you aren't already checking nutrition labels, I suggest you start! Anything with a lot of fat slows digestion, and that's even worse with this med. Sounds like you just kept eating high-fat foods, causing the problems. Gastric emptying means things are just sitting and fermenting in your stomach acid, and fats take even longer to digest. Be careful, it's a tricky balance!

Over a year on Wegovy. 60+ lbs gone. 1.0 dose now for maintenance. I had nausea and vomiting at first, but by month 5 it stopped! Now I eat whatever I want, just get full quicker. Food noise is way down. Like you, I pushed my food limits, and if something made me sick, I avoided it after. Good luck!

I've been on it for three weeks, no pain like that yet. I get a bit nauseous here and there, but nothing major. Had fast food and felt physically fine, but my conscience yells at me a lot, haha!

I hear ya! I'm hitting month two of sema - totally changed my eating habits. 180-degree flip from what I used to eat. Only 15 lbs from my goal. Doing great managing the side effects. But last weekend, I stopped for gas, and the fresh-made pizza smelled AMAZING. Told myself, "You've been good; you deserve a slice!" HUGE mistake. I barely made it home before the pizza hit me hard. One slice and some dipping sauce, and I thought I would die lol. My nurse laughed when I told her, but she said it shows I'm following the plan.

If I've eaten something I shouldn't have and I'm feeling rough, ice-cold lemon water and a high-protein salad really help me bounce back. Maybe it's the combo, but it works.

OMG, that happened the first month or two after I started! Nothing humbles you faster than projectile vomiting while on the toilet. Cleaning it up is the WORST. My friends were over, too. A very vulnerable "MOM, I threw up!" moment. It gets better, but now you've learned a lesson.

Sorry to hear that. Everybody's body is different, so hopefully others have a better experience. I had a similar incident after eating fast food. The GI issues were insane. No fried, fatty, or sugary food or drinks after your shot, for sure. I've learned my body doesn't react well, so I mostly avoid it.

I had a similar experience to RetaBoss659, but it wasn't food-related. Last week, I was convinced I was dying and went to the ER. I thought it was kidney stones or something serious. Turns out, it was just really bad period cramps! They need to add period relief as a benefit of these meds, lol.

I agree! Before starting on Mounjaro to manage my PCOS, I went for nine months without a period. Then one day, my body decided it was time to let it all go at WORK. I bled so much there were clots the size of my fist and the floor was covered. I actually had to be taken out by ambulance. Since starting, my periods are lighter and far less painful.

I had fish and chips the other day and the same thing happened to me! I've been on this for over a year, and I had forgotten why I don't eat fried food anymore, lol.
