Oprah & GLP-1s: For life?

It's kinda wild that she thought she could just stop the meds after all her struggles, huh? Now she's stretching doses way out. I think a super slow taper is the way to go when maintaining. Go up slow when losing, down slow when maintaining. But props to her for being so open about it all.

People gotta understand these GLP-1s are like BP meds or insulin. You need 'em, you need 'em. Most folks don't want to be tied to something forever, but from a medical POV, it's often necessary. And cost is a HUGE problem. Even with insurance, it's pricey. Imagine 500 bucks a month, outta pocket, forever. A lot of people just can't swing that. If we could get GLPs at cost, compliance wouldn't be an issue.

I went into this knowing I was likely on a GLP for the long haul. I felt so much better ON them, versus off. No way I'm going back to feeling like garbage.

Yeah, a really gradual taper, while adding in natural GLP boosters like fiber and certain herbs, might be a better strategy. I wonder what messes up our natural GLP production in the first place? Antibiotics? Anesthesia? Hormone shifts? Certain meds? Gotta be something common. Maybe it's just that too much sugar screws everything up? Pharma probably knows, but they're not sharing!

I keep seeing all these success stories. Is it really worth the potential side effects though? Anyone have experience with long-term use?

For me, the side effects were rough at first, but they DID get better over time. I've been on Wegovy almost 2 years, and I've dropped about 110 pounds. Hydration and protein are key!

Hearing Oprah talk about it is actually what got me to look into GLP-1s. So glad I did!
That's awesome! It's great when someone with that kind of platform can actually influence folks to make positive changes for themselves.

Crazy weight loss numbers from inject-FTW! Congrats on the hard work. I wonder if there's a point where the meds just...stop working as well? Maintenance seems like a real challenge.

Yeah, keeping it off is the big question mark. I'm trying to build more muscle now that I'm at a good weight, hopefully that helps.

I saw one person posting that they've been on maintenance for 3 months, lost over 200 pounds in about 9 months prior. They are sticking to their dosage.

The 'meds stop working' issue is more complex than just a simple tolerance thing. It's often about lifestyle creeping back in. The GLP-1s help manage appetite and blood sugar, but they don't magically erase bad habits. Maintenance requires continued effort.
