Oral GLP-1s: Thoughts?

The Wall Street Journal had an article about Lilly's new oral medication for weight loss and diabetes, showing some good initial results. It's behind a paywall, but it mentions an average loss of 16 pounds and improved blood sugar.

I think it'd mostly be helpful for keeping weight off after using the injectable versions, but it seems less effective. Losing about 8% of your weight in 40 weeks isn't that great compared to other options. I wonder how the long-term data will look?

I wouldn't switch to orforglipron, but lots of folks avoid GLP-1 drugs specifically because they don't want to do injections. Maybe this new pill will be cheaper than the currently available injectables.

Keep in mind that oral GLP-1s might offer better acceptance and adherence for some patients. It's all about choosing the right tool for the individual.

I'm still pretty new to all this... What are the main pros and cons of using GLP-1s for weight loss? I've only heard bits and pieces.

Hi LightTale, there are benefits and drawbacks. The meds can lead to significant weight loss, but they aren't for cosmetic reasons; they're for people with health issues related to their weight. Possible risks and side effects should always be carefully considered.

I've been following a Reddit thread about people's experiences with the Rybelsus. One person mentioned losing about 5 pounds in the first month (SW: 164.2, CW: 159.2, GW: 130.0). Said they had some mild stomach issues around week 2 and felt full quickly.

Sounds like a typical starting experience. It's encouraging to see people having success!

Exactly! It's important to remember that everyone responds differently, and side effects can vary. Some people may have a rougher time adjusting than others.
