Ozempic 2nd time's not a charm?

So, I started Oz in the summer of '23 and dropped about 25 pounds without much effort. Seriously, it curbed my appetite and made losing weight a breeze. Had to stop in the fall due to cost, and, yep, gained it all back. Now I'm back on, and it's just not the same. My appetite is still there, maybe even worse, and I'm eating past the point of being full. Anyone else experience this? I'm at 1mg, been on it for about 4 months this time, and only lost like 5 pounds. Thanks!

OMG, same here! Had to stop because it was too expensive, gained everything back. Now I'm on 2mg and only down 7 pounds. The cravings are worse than before. It's so frustrating knowing how good things can be but not being able to get there. So unfair.

The best way to quiet those cravings is to really limit the simple carbs and sugar. They feed the bad gut bacteria that send hunger signals to your brain. I followed Keto for a while and it really helped. But it's hard to stay on it when others in the household aren't. If I have something sweet one day, I'm hungrier the next, especially for sweets. If I eat sugary stuff for several days, I overeat all week and don't lose anything. Try smaller portions on smaller plates. Drink water with each meal. Remind yourself it's okay to feel hungry; it'll pass.

Same here. I only regained about 15 of the 85 pounds I initially lost during my 7 months off the medication, but I restarted recently and it's not working the same. Now I'm hitting the gym three times a week and tracking macros. I'm fighting tooth and nail just to maintain, hoping to see some progress in a few weeks.

Yep. Did you change where you're getting it from? The first time I took it, my alcohol cravings vanished. Getting back on it, it did nothing. Switched providers and now the cravings are under control again.

I posted earlier, but I want to add this. Read 'The Obesity Code' by Jason Fung. It discusses studies on obesity showing that cravings are often due to malfunctioning hunger hormones. It's not about willpower. Hormones like leptin, ghrelin, and insulin aren't working correctly. GLP-1s influence these hormones to help with weight loss, but there are other ways to fix them. The book helped me understand what my body needs.

Ugh, yes, same here. In 2023, I dropped about 30 pounds in nine months. But around Christmas '23, there was a shortage, and I couldn't get it for about six weeks. Once I got it again, life got in the way, and I couldn't find the right time to increase my dose due to fear of side effects. For about ten months of 2024, I was only taking .25mg. Didn't lose anything; actually, gained about 8 pounds back. Then in November 2024, I had surgery and had to stop it at least three weeks beforehand and didn't restart until two weeks after. I was only on .25mg until April 2025 when I finally increased to .5mg, and I feel zero difference! I'm not necessarily taking Ozempic for weight loss as I am pre-diabetic. Just had my blood work done recently and am still pre-diabetic.

Very common. You can still lose weight, but it will take time. You won't start losing again until you're back at your previous highest dose for a good while. You might even need to increase it a little more. Try going to 1.4mg using pen clicks. Or, switch to Mounjaro; it often leads to more weight loss compared to Ozempic or Wegovy.

Yes! Experiencing this now. Started Sept 2023, stopped Aug 2024, restarted Apr 2025. Noticed the same thing. I'm having to be much more strict with calorie counting and exercise. I initially saw this as a bad thing, but the silver lining is that once you're off (or go off again), you'll have gained more knowledge during your Ozempic period on managing cravings, which might make it easier to stay consistent once you're no longer taking it.

I feel this so hard. I just had some plastic surgery done and had to stop my shots a couple weeks beforehand. It's like walking without crutches. I've put on almost 20 pounds already. I'm hoping once the swelling goes down after surgery I'll feel better about myself.

I'm mostly worried about how alcohol is going to affect me when I stop. My friend's bachelorette party is coming up. When I was ON sema, drinking didn't even feel the same... it just made me feel ill. Has anyone else felt that?

Oh yeah, definitely be careful with alcohol if you're going off the medication for a bit. It hits you WAY harder. The delayed emptying of your stomach messes with the alcohol absorption. One drink can feel like three!

Yep. Beer became a no-go for me on this stuff. Made me feel terrible. I stick with vodka and flavored sparkling water now. Can control how strong it is and drink it slower.
