Ozempic and... unexpected moments?

Story time:

I'm around 410 lbs and have been taking Ozempic for about a month and a half for weight management and diabetes. Since starting, I've been experiencing pretty intense belching and gas.

This morning, around 6 am, I woke up to a rather loud and stinky... event. I didn't think much of it and tried to go back to sleep. Then I felt another one coming. I thought, "I'll just let this one go," and proceeded to do so. That's when I realized it wasn't just gas. It was much more liquid.

I've never moved faster in my life. I sprinted the 15 or so feet to my bathroom.

It's been almost half a day, and I'm seriously questioning every decision I've made, from not hitting the gym to indulging in too many sweets as a kid.

TL;DR: Trusted a fart; definitely shouldn't have.

Have you altered your dietary habits at all? Consuming a lot of greasy and fatty foods can definitely contribute to increased gas and diarrhea.

I personally eat a salad with feta and celery every day, plus some carrots and grapes. I also use a fiber supplement twice daily.

Those two replies coming so close together made me laugh.

Eat healthy, try to avoid sugary stuff, and try not to overeat too much, OP, and you should be alright. Avoiding sugar is seriously difficult, though.

Oh yeah... I remember those days. And it only ever happens between 2 and 4 AM. It's like your body decides it's time to wake you up to destroy the bathroom.

You really have to adjust your diet while on this medication. Eating clean can help reduce unwanted side effects. Focus on lean protein, preferably baked or air-fried, fibrous vegetables, and maybe some healthy carbs if you're still feeling hungry, like quinoa, rice, or baked sweet potatoes. The more processed, fried, or unhealthy food you eat, the worse the side effects will be.

I've been doing alright on Ozempic so far. But I tried a different med about 10 years ago, and oh boy was that a big mistake. It made me have liquid, awful-smelling fat coming out of my butt.

You should think about what you ate the night before this happened. Since you're just starting out, it might be that you haven't figured out what works and what doesn't for your new lifestyle.

For instance, I can't even look at wine anymore; it makes me feel super sick, even though I used to love it! And anything really fatty, like fried food, seems good for a minute, but then it just feels wrong.

Good luck!

This totally cracked me up. Your description, I mean, not your situation. Nothing is quite as humbling as messing your pants. I hope you feel better soon and that the GI issues go away.

For those struggling with constipation, I've found magnesium supplements to be helpful. Taking 500mg every night seems to keep things moving. And of course, drinking plenty of water is essential too.

I've had some... intense period experiences since starting GLP-1s. Last year I went almost a year without having one, and then it all came at once. I ended up seeking medical attention. They really should mention these kinds of hormonal changes in the information about benefits!

I've been using olive oil daily (tablespoon) and drink lots of water. It's helped a little, but I still have terrible constipation sometimes. Just a heads up!
