Ozempic costs more than my car payment!

People on GLP drugs who get arthritis diagnosis probably get treated more when they reach lower weights versus just accepting obesity as the cause. So there's higher enrichment of arthritis diagnoses on these meds, not necessarily more actual cases. BMI limits prevent knee replacement surgeries, so GLP users end up with more replacements for arthritis compared to others.

I plan on staying on my 5mg long term. I stretched through that shortage last spring but nothing crazy, just like 12 days. I use my glucose levels to figure out when to take my shots. But yeah, planning to keep it going for the foreseeable future.

GLP1 receptors sit in the hypothalamus, hippocampus, plus brainstem - these areas also regulate reward pathways, stress responses, mood, and memory. So they do way more than control appetite. This explains why people see OCD shifting, quitting smoking, cutting alcohol. I work in therapy and patients shared how these peptides changed their mental wellbeing. That's what got me interested. Hoping those reports turn into actual studies down the road.

Doesn't make sense—they're supposedly the same drug but Wegovy's not touching me. Lost over 20 on Ozempic but insurance wouldn't cover it. Switched to Wegovy, started at 1.7 since I'd done 1mg Ozempic, now at 2.4. Nothing. Not hungry, not overeating, just disappointed.

The insurance refusal for Ozempic while the co-pay stays at what it is relative to outcomes data is one of the more frustrating structural gaps - the preventive-care math doesn't make it into the prior-auth criteria. The out-of-pocket cost is real even when the medical case for coverage is strong.

the Medicare will-cover-a-panniculectomy-but-not-the-medication situation is one of the stranger coverage logic inversions - the surgical intervention for the end-stage complication is covered but the medication that prevents reaching that stage is not. the coverage gap tends to close once the patient demonstrates a documented medical complication, which is backwards from a prevention standpoint

the financial barrier is a real layer in the judgment dynamic that does not get enough acknowledgment - the person who cannot access the medication and experiences that loss as a kind of exclusion is in a different position than the person who is making a deliberate choice not to try it. conflating those two positions produces comments that miss the actual source of the frustration
