Ozempic long-term - my story

Been taking Ozempic since early last year for diabetes that was spiraling out of control. My A1c was at 9.6. Started on the usual low dose along with Metformin twice a day. Now, about a year and a quarter later, my A1c has stabilized at 5.3 for the last six months. I'm off Metformin now but still on Ozempic 2.0mg. I initially dropped 50 lbs in half a year, but the weight loss has plateaued. Still, I'm just so glad to have my diabetes managed and feel so much better overall. Wanted to share with others who understand! Thanks.

My A1C was also above 9 when my doctor suggested Ozempic. I've only managed to lose around 10 pounds, but I've only been on it for a couple of months and I'm not really trying very hard. It definitely helps curb my appetite, which helps me make better food choices. My cholesterol is also back in the normal range. My thyroid, which was a little low, is now normal too. The best part is that I feel much better! I used to get so tired in the afternoon, which was unusual for me and probably due to blood sugar spikes. That's gone now. I've had no bad side effects so far and hope my A1C keeps improving. I was unsure about starting Ozempic, but it's been a game-changer.

I hear you, @Robin16. I've been a T2D patient for over 30 years and I was almost at the point of needing insulin. Now I'm training for a marathon! It's amazing what these meds can do. I love that your doctor was moved as well. Congratulations to everyone seeing positive results!

Did you also make big changes to your diet?

I did, but nothing too crazy. I cut out sugary drinks and most processed foods. Mostly portion control and trying to eat more protein and vegetables.

That's awesome! I'm down about 20 pounds since January and fitting into clothes I haven't worn in years! My blood sugar is also really well controlled. I am a Mom and want to be able to keep up with the kids. My goal is to walk around an amusement park without needing a scooter!

got hit with a head cold first week - pretty sure that's just coincidence since a bunch of coworkers got sick too. scale dropped 7 pounds the first week but i know that's not realistic long term, probably water and the way food moves differently. sides have been pretty light so far. noticed the effect wears off a bit by the end of the week though, might switch to every other day dosing.

Week 1 update, got a head cold early on but think it's just going around my office. Dropped 7 pounds that first week, mostly from eating less and how the drug affects digestion. The scale moving is encouraging even though week one doesn't mean much long term. Sides have been pretty minimal so far. I've noticed the effect isn't as strong later in the week when I'm further from my injection. Might try the every-other-day schedule I see some people doing.

Oh no judgment from me! I actually tried keto for a couple months and ate so much prepackaged stuff. It helped some folks I know but I couldn't stick with it. My body just wants carbs, honestly. Like really wants them. When I started Mounjaro a few months back I thought maybe things would shift but nope, still same appetite for carbs. The whole thing is so individual though.

Even if I dropped the weight and kept it off, I'd stay on it forever for the cardiovascular and metabolic benefits. Heart attacks, strokes, diabetes risk - that's what this is really about for me. Being overweight long term carries serious health consequences, and I fall into that higher-risk group. Pretty common situation honestly.
