Been running GLP-1 medications since the very first one hit the market back in 2005. That original drug worked really well for me on the twice-daily injection schedule, but the moment it switched to a once-daily version, it stopped being effective, and I watched my A1C creep upward as proof.
Moved to a different GLP-1 option in 2010, and no matter what dose I tried, my A1C kept climbing along with my insulin requirements.
Switched again in 2016, and within under two years my A1C had jumped from 7.6 up to 9.8.
Finally landed on the current medication in 2018, stayed at the lowest starting dose for three months before bumping up once, and held steady there for just over six years before finally moving to a higher amount almost two years back.
The only reason I pushed the dose up was that my baseline insulin needs weren't dropping while everything else had leveled out and stayed solid. Wanted to see if going higher would move the needle. Six months later my baseline insulin needs finally started falling, and within the year I'd gone from 320 units down to 160, and things settled from there.
Now that generic versions are available, I've been switched onto one of those at the same dose, and it's still too early to say how it's
