Ozempic & Surprise Pregnancies?

I saw a video floating around about women on Ozempic getting pregnant unexpectedly. Later, some ladies in my fertility group online mentioned the same thing with other weight loss meds. I didn't get it at first. Anyone else experience this? Do you think there will be studies done to look at this?

I know Ozempic supports PCOS and weight management. My period had always been irregular. Since starting Ozempic, it's been very regular.

I think a few things are happening:
  • Weight loss can improve fertility.
  • Ozempic can affect how your body absorbs birth control pills.
Ozempic doesn't directly cause pregnancy.

If you're having sex, you can get pregnant, period. Are people claiming they got pregnant *without* sex while on Ozempic? Otherwise, this isn't news.

For people who were very overweight, if Ozempic helps drop a lot of weight, your body will function in a healthier way. That means healthier cycles and ovulation.

It reduces inflammation throughout the system. Inflammation is connected to multiple health concerns, likely including fertility.

Ozempic has turned me into a total square, ha! I don’t drink, don’t binge on junky food, and I barely smoke weed anymore. I take edibles only before sleeping - it all happened slowly. Now I'm just... sober.

Ozempic might help with PCOS and losing weight. If people are having intercourse, they can get pregnant. Also, with delayed emptying, the morning-after pill might be less effective.

I just learned that I'm expecting! I've been on it for 3 months after enduring 8 years of infertility, one miscarriage, and stage 4 endometriosis! I thought the higher dose was just making me sick, but NOPE, I'm pregnant!

I have PCOS and dealt with infertility issues. Started Ozempic in April '23. Pregnant in December '23 and April '24. My 'Ozempic' baby is now 5 months old.

Sudden weight loss in individuals with obesity can lead to a boost in fertility. This was seen way back with gastric bypass surgeries.

Losing weight is encouraged to boost fertility, especially if overweight. Fat around organs releases hormones and inflammatory stuff, so losing that weight helps.

You can't become pregnant specifically from Ozempic. However, for women with obesity or poor reproductive health, losing weight on Ozempic could significantly increase fertility.

So, if you're sexually active, have poor reproductive health, and your weight goes down, fertility goes up, and pregnancy odds greatly increase.

I'm seeing more and more stories like this! This woman on another forum was trying for years.

Congratulations to you!

I came off Ozempic when I started trying to conceive. One thing that helped me maintain my weight loss was that I focused on smaller portion sizes. I'd gotten used to them on the medication, and I kept those habits after stopping. I've actually lost a few more pounds!

Started for blood sugar and weight. Nausea was worse than expected. Insurance fighting has been brutal — off the drug for months at a time, then back on. Out-of-pocket costs in the US are rough.
