Ozempic, wine, and regret?

Okay, so I'm on week five of Ozempic, and I haven't had any icky side effects so far. Major win, right? Well, I'm at a fancy hotel celebrating my anniversary, but I didn't pack my entire medicine cabinet. I thought, 'Hey, a small glass of Sauv Blanc couldn't hurt.'

Big mistake. My tummy is NOT happy. Waves of queasiness, chills like I'm in Antarctica, and I just feel totally gross. I've done all the things – cozy blankets, deep breaths, gave my spouse space to sleep, nibbled on crackers, tiny water sips – nada. And of course, I forgot my anti-nausea meds at home. I couldn't even finish the glass of vino! Plus, I'm super anxious when I feel sick because I have a major fear of barfing.

I could just bail and go home (short but pricey ride). But hubs is sawing logs next to me, and I'd hate to wake him up. Plus, we've got a swanky breakfast and spa booked for tomorrow, and they gave us a free upgrade to a killer room 'cause of our anniversary. Super frustrating.

To top it off, I've only shed 3 measly pounds. I know it'll pass, but uggggh. Just needed to whine to folks who get it. Please be gentle! I know booze was a gamble, but I thought I'd be fine since I hadn't had any other issues. It was just supposed to be a special toast. ❤️‍🩹

Don't knock losing 3 pounds in just over a month! That's solid progress. Slow and steady is often better in the long haul. Keep your chin up, you're doing great.

Also, roust your hubby and send him on a mission to get you some pepto. It usually calms my stomach down in about a half hour.

Ugh, I feel you. Alcohol and greasy foods make me super sick too. Had a similar ordeal on my anniversary getaway last week! Any chance of finding pepto tabs somewhere? A couple of those usually help me feel better. I popped some and could actually sleep and felt decent in the morning. Sending good vibes your way. ❤️‍🩹

Try a calcium carbonate antacid and lie on your left side for several hours. This is frequently recommended for heartburn. If you still feel unwell afterward, assess how you feel and do what you think is best.

It might just be anxiety, honestly. I also have a huge phobia of vomiting and I react the same way when I get anxious about it (like if I think I ate something iffy). I'm on week 3 and I've been having a small glass of wine most nights with no issues (I need to curb that, but baby steps!). Just a thought 😉. But I know everyone's different, too.

When I first started on this med, I had like a tiny bit of white wine with a small Thanksgiving meal and felt terrible... Sorry you're going through that. Maybe see if the front desk has anything?

I didn't have ANY alcohol for darn close to a year, but now I can enjoy a glass with dinner, no problem.

When did you inject? I cannot drink at all on dose day, or the 3-4 days following.

I mean, I *can*, but my next-day hangover will be extreme, so I just don't. I hope you start to feel better quickly.

I just want to put this out there, and I hope it cheers you up just a little bit.

Being on this medication for five weeks, and only dropping three pounds, is 100% fine. It doesn't always just magically start working right away, and even when it does, losing a pound or two each week is perfectly normal. Plus, I'm not even at the full dose yet.

Don’t get discouraged by a slower rate of weight loss.

For those dealing with constipation as a side effect, have you looked into psyllium fiber? I've heard mixed reviews, but some people swear by a spoonful in warm water in the mornings. Just remember to stay well-hydrated!

I've been on this for a while now and have lost 70+ pounds. One thing I learned the hard way is to watch out for gallstones – I thought my stomach issues were just med side effects, but turns out I needed hospital treatment twice! Worth keeping an eye on, especially with quick weight loss.

That's scary! Thanks for the heads-up. Definitely something to keep in mind.

adderall gives me way more noticeable appetite suppression than this med. can feel the stimulant kick in for hours so I focus at work. skip it and the food noise spikes hard. but since I'm on this, I have better baseline satiety so it's not as bad when I'm off the stimulant.

when i started with wegovy, no insurance, $500 for 4 starter shots. insurance never covered it. my husband's ozempic co-pay jumped to $100/month this year from $25. we're both buying from grey market now just to afford it.

Yeah, the pen thing gets asked constantly. Here in the UK they give you 4 needles and tell you to bin the pen after 4 doses. It's 1.34 mg/mL with 1.5 mL total = 2.01 mg, so there's definitely 1 mg left. Docs rarely explain this which confuses a lot of people about whether they're using it right.
