Ozempic's losing its...oomph?

I've been taking 1mg for about half a year and shed around 30lbs. But now it feels like it's not working as well. It's way harder to keep my calories down, and my weight loss has slowed way down. I pay for it myself here in Canada, and it's so expensive when it barely does anything. I'm thinking of upping my dose soon, but I'm worried about what happens when I max out and my body just gets used to that too. Do tolerance breaks even work?

You just keep increasing the dosage until you can't anymore, then you look at switching to something like Mounjaro. :/

It might be more than just cutting calories. What are you eating? Eating unprocessed, whole foods can make your body work better. Also, maybe try working out more. A lot of people need a full program on top of the medication.

I started back on it around the middle of January. I've gone from 0.25mg to 1.0mg. I really don't feel any side effects and barely even notice it. It's very different from when I was on it for 3 months last summer, where the side effects were intense.

Since we're talking Canada, I thought I'd add my 2 cents on the costs.

I am prescribed Ozempic to treat T2D and manage my A1C levels. I currently take 0.5mg of the medication.

I also pay out of pocket for my prescriptions and I get it filled at Costco. The 2mg pen costs me $219 CAD when using the discount card from the official Ozempic website. If you're not taking advantage of this, you should!

Been on Ozempic since July last year, dropped 90+ pounds without too much trouble, but almost exactly at the one-and-a-half-year mark (at 2.0mg) the food cravings came back like crazy and I started putting weight back on. I kept going until December, and gained about 20lbs while still taking 2mg. I switched to Tirzepatide 12.5mg in December, which helped a bit with the cravings, but I'm still stuck, +/- a few pounds. I'm so frustrated trying to lose those 20lbs again.

I'm also in Canada and have been taking it since Health Canada approved it back in 2018. It hasn't stopped working for me yet. I've been on 1mg for about a year and a quarter now. Before that, I was on 0.5mg for 6 years because it was working well enough, and also because of the shortages. Moving to 1mg seemed too risky until the supply stabilized again.

Do you know that a competing drug is cheaper to buy than Oz when it comes to anything above 1mg?

I feel you. I'm on .5 and can't stop myself from eating. I got up to 1.0 next month but I’ve paid about 250 dollars this month for essentially no weight loss. I hope the 1.0 helps. 🤔

I switched to 1 mg and the weight loss stopped. My doctor suggested either going up to 1.5 or switching to Mounjaro. I decided to try that instead.

Some people find it's cheaper to use the highest dose of Wegovy because the pen has a lot more in it. You can adjust the clicks to get your dose and maybe save some money.

It took about a year before I plateaued and the food cravings started coming back. I was still at 0.5 at that point, so I went up to 0.75. That broke the plateau, but after a couple of months, I felt the side effects were too much, so I'm experimenting with 0.65 to see if it works. Of course, I can go higher if needed, but I'm only slightly overweight now, so I'm not too concerned. I just don't want the cravings to come back. I even did some therapy to deal with "missing" that voice in my head, and I'm in a good place now. I want to stay that way. I'll definitely increase the dose if I have to.

You should talk to your doctor about how to manage it. There are a lot of ways to deal with it, and not all of them are meds.

I saw someone else online say they tried 1.5mg for a while before going all the way to 2mg. They recommended staying at the lowest dose that still works for you.
