Paper towel effect a real thing!

Hey everyone! F 30, 5'7", Started at 240, now 165. I wasn't sure the 'paper towel effect' was actually happening for me. I mean, I felt smaller... but the shape? Seemed the same. But I finally had my 'aha!' moment. The before pic is at 175, the after is 165. My stomach doesn't have that overhang anymore!

Wow! Your before and after gives me hope! I'm seeing my apron slowly decrease, but figured it would just be a smaller version of itself. I'm about 5'7" and currently 175. Hoping I only need to lose another 10 or so like you did to see it disappear. Congrats on your progress! <3

I've noticed the same too. I lost about 60 pounds and I felt like I looked the same. But in the last two weeks, I dropped another 10 pounds and I see more of a difference now, than in all of those pounds lost previously.

Awesome job! You look fantastic! My little belly overhang is almost gone too! At 57 and female, I never imagined this! Went from 180 to 140, with only 5 more pounds to get to my goal. Feeling great!

It's so strange to observe how weight loss on this medication works differently compared to just dieting. It almost feels like weight loss from just dieting alone was more noticeable. Although, it is better this way, even if the weight is dropping, but subtle. That makes me think I'm getting rid of the fat around my organs (I always mess up the technical terms for fat types lol). Just a theory, but it makes sense to me.

And I thought the paper towel effect was like the pencil test – can your apron hold a pencil up, LOL (mine can, btw!)

Great job!! I think it has a lot to do with visceral vs. subcutaneous fat. Visceral goes first, while subcutaneous fat slowly metabolizes.

I totally agree! When I dieted before, the changes seemed faster at first. With this, it feels like it's happening from the inside out, if that makes sense?

For anyone just starting out, just remember that even if the scale isn't moving super fast at first, it's still working! Early progress might feel quick for some, but remember to stay focused on the long term. It's about lifestyle changes, not just a quick fix.

It's different for everyone, but keep going! I thought mine would never go away, but now it's barely noticeable. Hydration and strength training can help too!

I'm 5'8", started at 240, and now I'm 150 – and my belly *still* folds! (I blame having kids!)
It's frustrating, I know! I think it also depends on where you carry your weight. I'm hoping with more strength training I can tighten things up even more.

Getting a fancy scale in a few days. Never noticed real muscle loss until I hit 170. After that my rear and arms got skinny. Starting strength work tomorrow. Rare but possible with fast weight loss from bariatric-type situations. Lost all the fat cushioning in my sinus tubes making them huge. Got 15 sinus surgeries with extreme CRSwNP so I rinse daily. Past two months my ears clog more during altitude and if sinuses aren't fully drained after rinsing.

always did thighs because i thought stomach would hit worse with nausea. thighs were 6-8 out of 10 pain, super high tolerance and it still stung like crazy. switched to stomach a couple weeks ago, down to 1-3 pain. maybe the fat makes a difference. no nausea issues so far 🤞 if stomach's working keep doing that.
