Pfizer's new GLP-1 shot?

The interesting thing is it's a once-a-month injection. That's a convenience factor. But with oral options becoming available, I'm not sure if it'll be a game changer.
 
I agree with @Light_Life; most people will probably pick a pill over a shot if they can, even if it is just once a month. Still, I'm wondering if this could be used in conjunction with something else to boost results...
 
There's always a market for less common options. Like, some birth control shots are every 3 months and people still use them. Not everyone remembers to take a pill every day!
 
Exactly, @Pulse_Lady, Depo was super popular for a reason. If I only had to worry about taking my meds a few times a year, even if it meant a slightly unpleasant procedure, I'd seriously consider it.
 
At this point, cost is king. If this drug or any other new GLP-1 is too expensive, insurance companies won't cover it. It doesn't matter if it works a little better or worse than other options. The key is affordability. If they can get it down to around $100 per dose for the consumer, it will probably be a hit because insurance will cover it. Otherwise, like Zepbound, it won't be.
 
Following up on the cost discussion, I wonder how the success of drugs like Ozempic are affecting economies? I read something about Denmark's growth being significantly boosted by their pharma sector (specifically, Novo Nordisk). If they strip out pharma their growth numbers are way less impressive. But the flip side is their stock is down, and people are losing money. Wild.
 
It's a complex situation, @Groovy_Lady. The economic impact of these drugs is definitely something to consider. There's also the issue of compounding pharmacies. The FDA is cracking down on compounding certain peptides. It seems like they're trying to control the market more.
 
I'm with @Charlie_11 on this one. The FDA always says it's for safety. But half the time, it just makes things more complicated and drives prices up. Now it's probably gonna be harder to get certain peptides.
 
This is all getting so expensive!! I was looking into BPC157 at a compounding pharmacy and the price was insane. Why is it so much cheaper to get it from a 'research' site? Makes me wonder about the quality though...
 
Possible these doctors aren't dumb, just humoring stubborn patients. When a month off fails to drop the plateau and patient's pissed, probably easier spouting nonsense about mandatory three-month breaks hoping they won't call the bluff.
