Post-Mounjaro Skin Woes?

After shedding over 100 pounds thanks to Mounjaro—135 total—I went ahead with skin removal op. It's such a joy fitting into my clothes now without having to worry about that extra skin. I'm so thankful for this medication. I’m also glad that I did the hard work of tracking calories, upping my protein, and prioritizing my health! The before picture is from my early twenties and the after is me at 40!

Wow, congrats! How long did it take to recover after your skin removal surgery? How many days were you out of work?

Congrats, you look fantastic. I’ve dropped close to 200 pounds myself, and seriously, go grab a couple of 50-pound bags of dog food and lug them around. That’s basically what we were carrying around all the time. Isn’t that wild? You should be super proud of yourself. People think you just take a shot and that's it, but you have to totally revamp your life. For me, it became all about portion sizes. That’s what made the biggest difference, seriously.

Congratulations, that’s awesome. How intense was the surgery? It must require extra care down there!

Thank you so much for sharing your story and the details. It's something I've been thinking about a lot. I've lost 150 lbs. And I'm 67, so my skin is quite loose and wrinkled. I manage okay with shapewear. Haha! I'm not in a relationship and not sure I want surgery at my age. My main issue is the expense. I don't have that kind of money. And probably couldn't save it before I die. So I'll continue to wear my body shaping bodysuit and tuck my wrinkly chest into my bra. But you look amazing! I know you're proud of yourself. And I am proud for you.

I had my tummy tuck done in May, but I ran into a few serious complications, so I’m still getting wound care weekly for wound separation. But when I look at my reflection and see my stomach flat, I know I’d do the surgery again.

Hey Nicky_2002, The_King, Avery_58 -- thanks for all the kind words and questions! To answer a few:

The surgery itself wasn't a walk in the park, but honestly, the results are worth it. I had a lower body lift, so they worked on my tummy, hips, and outer thighs. Recovery took a solid 6 weeks before I felt mostly like myself again. Definitely research surgeons and go to someone board-certified! I took 4 weeks off work, but could have used a fifth. If you have any specific questions, let me know.

I'm not sure I want to go that far... I'm seeing some serious neck wrinkles since losing the weight from Mounjaro. I saw in a reddit thread that they call it "Ozempic neck!" and frankly, I'm terrified! Has anyone else experienced this? The reddit thread says things like only surgery works and I’ve developed a waddle. And I’m horrified and happy at the same time.

Genetics, aging, and hydration play a large role in that. It's not DIRECTLY from the medication, but weight loss can definitely make it more noticeable.

I've noticed more forehead wrinkles since losing weight! Part of it is just getting older, but I do think the weight loss contributes. But personally, I'd rather deal with the wrinkles than carry around an extra 100 pounds!

I agree with Avery_58. Wrinkles are better than the alternative! And really, the skin removal surgery was worth it. I feel so much more confident. I saw a reddit thread where everyone was saying that "Ozempic face is literally just losing fat around your face like yes that’s the goal" and honestly, I feel like I look younger!
