Protein supplements: changed much?

This article in the Times today https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/27/business/david-protein-bars.html got me thinking... Since starting on a GLP1 back in spring, I've completely lost the need for protein bars. Before, I'd have one almost every day. Now, I only reach for one if I'm out and about and realize I haven't eaten in way too long and I'm afraid I'll get shaky. Maybe it's because they load them with sweeteners and I'm not craving sweets as much. Or maybe they just feel like a brick in my stomach now. If I can't get enough protein from actual food (which is most days), I'm looking for a protein drink that is light so I still have room for actual food. Anyone else experiencing this? What protein supplements are you using now?

I used to drink a lot of the Fairlife shakes but the price and those plastic bits freaked me out. Now I'm using Isopure and a mix of Collagen and Aminos that I hope makes a complete protein... and tastes like crazy sour candy.

I make my own sometimes, using whey protein isolate. I also keep some Fairlife shakes around, and when Amazon has a sale, I grab Premier shakes. I don't care for protein bars either.

I used to eat two or three protein bars every single day. They were like a guilt-free treat, but ever since I started on reta, they give me the ick. They just taste too processed and artificial now. If I can I prefer real food.

Exactly, @Gene_Chick576. They feel too heavy and not-real now. I find that I'm ok with just a small portion of dessert if I want something sweet.

In general, those really dense foods aren't as appealing. I prefer fruits and veggies. Meat is something I eat less of, which is why I need those protein drinks.

After starting Terz, I switched to a super expensive protein shake called Kachava. I can't stand the ads for it, but all the other shakes and powders taste terrible! It mixes well with a frozen banana or some blueberries and a little fiber. It keeps me hydrated, regular, and I can get down 300 calories when I know I need to eat, but don't really feel like it.

I'm also on Wegovy, @Lucky_xo455. It took me maybe 10 months to lose 60ish pounds. I've essentially cut out all carbs and starch. My meals are mostly green veggies and carrots with some lean protein, like chicken breast or chickpeas. Fruit in moderation to satisfy sweet cravings. I also drink Chobani Complete shakes.

I'm only a few weeks into my GLP-1 journey but I'm finding that I can barely stomach any protein or fat. Only very plain, bland things. And sweet things, not savory. Toast with jam, oatmeal, bananas. Anybody else feel like this? All I can handle right now is steamed tofu and protein smoothies.

Thanks, that's nice of you to say. Don't feel particularly slim yet but I train regularly and prioritize my protein intake so hoping some muscle developed.

First 4 weeks at 2.5mg I dropped 8 lbs week one, less after. Bumped to 5mg this morning and zero hunger all day. Nervous about skipping meals but feel completely fine.

Eating more fat during that window made everything feel smoother for me too. Half an avocado for breakfast changed the game compared to straight protein focus.

Got the same reaction bumping to 6mg. Complete loss of interest in food, even water was hard. Nausea crept in plus that dizzy feeling when I stood up fast like I'd pass out. Higher dose took over in a bad way real quick. That total lack of eating interest felt bizarre and scary.

Sugar in protein supplements adds up fast when total intake has dropped on GLP-1. Each gram is a bigger proportion at lower overall volume. Classic unflavored whey is the cleanest option.
