Reta and Insomnia - Anyone Else?

I'm finding that on a dose around 1mg each week, I'm up all night. Really struggling to fall asleep and then I wake up frequently. Anyone else experiencing this and have any tips?

Magnesium before bed (the kind formulated for sleep!), plus glycine and zinc have been helping me catch some zzz's. Worth a try!

Try injecting in the AM. Also magnesium can help. If that still isn't enough, maybe some other peps like DSIP or epitalon might do the trick.

Were you sleeping well before starting Reta? I'm curious if it's something new or something that was already there.

Sometimes these meds mess with you more when you first start or when you increase the dose. Maybe give it some more time to see if your body gets used to it.

When I started on tirzepatide and kept going up in dose, my sleep got worse, I had headaches (and I *never* get headaches), and my eyesight was blurry for a while. The only thing that hasn't gone away is constipation. The other things got better with time. Stick with it.

I had similar issues. Waking up feeling like I got hit by a truck, dragging myself through the day... ugh. Have you had blood work done recently? I'd ask for a CBC, iron panel, ferritin, B12, folate, and Vit D at the very least. Optimal ferritin is around 100 pg/mL and Vitamin D is around 80 pg/mL. Deficiencies could be playing a role!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

My sleep was generally okay before starting, nothing remarkable, but I could fall asleep easily and stay asleep most of the night. I'll try the magnesium and look into DSIP. I appreciate the advice!

I've also had some crazy vivid dreams since starting tirzepatide. Not always food-related, but definitely intense. Maybe it's related to the meds, or maybe just sleeping more soundly now that my sleep apnea is better controlled?

I have also experienced some vivid dreams on GLP-1s, and I agree with Food_xo, upping your protein intake or healthy fats can mitigate those cravings

Insomnia on Reta week one is a real pattern - autonomic activation from the GLP-1 effect can raise cortisol and disrupt sleep onset, usually settles in weeks 3-4 once the body adapts. Melatonin at 0.5mg about 90 minutes before bed helps the transition period without adding another variable to track.

The vivid dream pattern on both is consistent - the reward and autonomic system changes that come with GLP-1 and glucagon receptor activity appear to affect REM characteristics. The overall sleep quality improving despite the vivid dreams is the typical trajectory people describe.
