Reta before race? And macros?

Alright, Reta's on its way. Found a pen already loaded (from a source I kinda trust haha). Was thinking of going with vials, but the pen seemed easier. Aiming for 1mg as a starting point.

So, before I jump in, just a few quick questions:
1. Got a big 13.1-mile run coming up this weekend. Smart to wait until Monday to start the Reta?
2. What's everyone eating to hit their protein goals? I'm shooting for around 2000 cals, at least 175g of protein. Protein shakes might be a lifesaver here.
3. Any other supplements you're taking to help with Reta or any potential side effects (besides more peps)?

Anything I should keep an eye out for? Any advice you wish you had before starting?

there's a reta and extended fasting thread that gets into macros and timing around training

Info on current stats and goals would help. Running a half before starting is... bold. 😂

1: Your call. I injected my Zepbound right away. No issues.

2: I eat whatever. Lots of discussion on food around here. If protein's the worry, go with lean meats. I've gone through like, 12 lbs of protein powder in 60 days? Greek yogurt is a plus. I can eat mostly the same stuff as before. Carbs are important for running, though.

3: PHGG fiber and HMB-FA. Also take D3K2.

1. Yeah, I'd probably hold off until you're done or even a few days after that major run to give your body a chance to recover before introducing a new variable.

2. Protein's definitely key, I agree. But I wouldn't stress too much. Reta makes it easier to choose healthier options, like a salad over a greasy burger.

3. Maybe skip any extra vitamins or anything else that might make you constipated right after your first dose, at least until you know how you'll react. Psyllium husk is great stuff, though. I'd take it regularly.

Also, might think about starting lower, like 0.5mg instead of 1mg. You'll feel it, even at a lower dose. Going slow can help minimize any side effects. I was going to follow the phase 3 trial protocol, but I'm happy sticking with lower doses, for now, and increasing as needed. Eventually, I might get to 8mg, but there's no rush.

Yeah, I would hold off on starting. Better safe than sorry.

Worst case, you could get hypoglycemia. Or maybe runner's diarrhea thanks to the GLP. But that might take 2 days or more to show up in the lower GI.

I take a bunch of supplements, but I love electrolytes for GLPs. You're probably already taking them for the run. Taurine's good too, the steroid bros like it to prevent cramps and protect the heart.

I'd hold off. Everyone reacts differently. You might not feel anything, or you could have side effects. It's really unpredictable.

Definitely wait. It's better to be recovered before you introduce something new to your body. Good luck with your run!

I'd wait until after the race and not add a new variable if you want to evaluate how you felt and performed. Like others have said, psyllium husk is a good addition and has helped keep me regular.

Any specific brand of psyllium husk or just whatever? My Reta is here and I'm itching to start as soon as my injection supplies get here, so this thread is perfect. Thanks!

Any brand is fine. I buy it in bulk. Both the powder and capsules seem the same. Just get whatever's affordable.

I just mix a few scoops in water, stir, and drink it fast like tequila. It gels up if you let it sit. A quick stir and swallow is the way to go. Start with a small amount and increase as needed. I have a big glass in the AM and when I get home.

For the love of Pete, don't try a new drug you've never had right before a race you've trained for! I get annoyed when people are like "I'm scared of side effects, it's been a week and I'm still nervous to try it" (but I keep it to myself), but you'd be bummed to run twelve miles with some stomach issues.

Finished the half in 1 hour, 28 minutes, and 32 seconds. Super happy with that time. I've had some nipple sensitivity. The appetite suppression was amazing at first but seems to have completely gone away as of Tuesday. I took 2.5mg on Sunday evening. It was a pre-filled pen, so 2.5mg was the only option for my starting dose.

A sub-90 minute half is very impressive!

Do you even need weight loss meds? When I was running marathons and going sub-90, I was super lean and couldn't put on weight if I tried.

I thought about it a lot. My body fat % is around 15%, but I can't seem to lose the fat around my midsection. I've tried everything. Plus, the sugar cravings were out of control. I'm taking a break from running and focusing on lifting now.

Kayaking is great for the core. It works your trunk from trying to balance while paddling. Good upper body workout too.

Of course, that's only useful if you live near a river or the ocean that's suitable for kayaking. It's a good workout that pushes you differently than the gym.

Funny you say that, I used to kayak a few years back and sold everything. It was hard to store all the gear, and it took an hour to get ready and drive to the water.

How's your experience on the GLPs going?
