Reta: Effects on booze?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
The dopamine reward effect is the more consistent piece of how Reta changes drinking - it's not just appetite suppression like the other GLP-1s. The anhedonia risk at higher doses is real but tends to be temporary and dose-related, so if someone notices things that used to feel good just going flat, backing off usually resolves it. Worth naming with a partner early because the shift in drinking habits can happen faster than expected and it lands differently when it's just quietly different one day.

the 'urges but can't get drunk' combination is one of the more consistent alcohol experiences on GLP-1 - the reward circuit change reduces the drive, but when drinking still happens, the changed absorption creates a slower and flatter curve than expected at the usual drink count. the carbonation sensitivity at night is a separate mechanism - the slowed gastric emptying means CO2 sits longer and the nighttime gas accumulation follows

the reduced alcohol noise creating a window for therapeutic work is one of the more useful frames for thinking about the medication's role in that context - the medication doesn't resolve the underlying patterns, it quiets the drive enough to make addressing those patterns more accessible. using that window to work with a therapist or support structure is a different strategy than relying on the medication effect alone to sustain change

the 'still drink but much better' version of the Reta alcohol effect is the most common outcome - not complete cessation, but the compulsive quality of the craving is reduced enough that the choice feels like an actual choice rather than an automatic pull. the maintained ability to drink when you want to without the drive taking over is the change that most people notice and value

Still drink occasionally on this medication. Capped at 1-3 though, just genuinely don't want more than that. Strange side effect too, feels like getting less drunk overall. A couple drinks with nothing else in the stomach used to hit hard, yet somehow it barely registers now. Still smoke occasionally as well, but that's dropped dramatically too. Just don't feel the pull toward it anymore.

Might've been holding back too much anxiety around drinking to actually feel the alcohol's effects. Personal experience runs the opposite direction though, needing way less to reach the same buzz now.

Yeah, wish it killed the urge to drink entirely though. Doesn't seem to - still catch myself chasing the buzz, just don't actually feel it anymore compared to before starting.

Running tirzepatide has brought less inflammation for me and completely killed my craving for alcohol. Still get the occasional sweet tooth moment though.

Curious if anyone here who normally likes getting drunk has actually experienced it while on the third compound? Get that the desire to drink drops off, but what's it actually feel like once you've had a substantial amount?

Personally lost interest in heavy nights out over the past year or so, though that's unrelated to this medication since I've only been running it two weeks. Just got tired of that whole scene and these days I care more about hitting my goals than getting drunk. That said, a couple of upcoming social events over the coming weeks are basically built around going out for drinks with friends. Wondering if it'll still feel as fun and enjoyable once I'm actually drunk like it used to. One of those events happens to be my own bachelor send-off, so people will absolutely be buying me rounds either way, ha.

This is exactly me. Never planned on giving up alcohol, it just kind of happened on its own. The craving simply disappeared. Also don't feel that little buzz or the wind-down sensation anymore from an opening beer the way I used to after a rough shift or a long drive. Now it just makes me sleepy. Every couple weeks I'll still join coworkers for one or two just to stay social, though honestly taking it or leaving it wouldn't matter to me either way. Before this compound, I was putting away three or four drinks daily, sometimes even more. Genuinely one of the best surprise benefits, right alongside the expected 30% body weight drop.
