Reta makin' my skin crazy!

Bumpin' this old thread. Hopefully someone's still around.

I'm a 60-year-old woman, 6'0", and I'm at my target weight of 170lbs.

I was on 2.5mg of Zepbound weekly for about 3 months, then switched to 2mg of Reta weekly 'cause the Zep was costing a fortune. I didn't lose or gain anything for a month, so I bumped it up to 4mg of Reta. That kicked in hard after a week, and I blew past my goal weight! Now I might have to stop altogether.

I noticed the skin sensitivity right after going to 4mg. It's not visible, but it feels like a mild sunburn, and clothes irritate my skin like crazy. If I still needed the Reta, I'd deal with it, but it's a pain. Moisturizing doesn't help; it feels like it's nerve-related. Just wanted to share my experience.

Sadly... it didn't make ALL of my skin more sensitive. ;)

I get that sunburn feeling on my arms and legs too, and it's definitely the worst side effect. I started at 1mg per week around January 7th of last year, went to 2mg, and now I'm at 3mg. I think it stopped after a few weeks at 1mg, but I haven't been without it since then. Wearing clothes is annoying, especially around my ankles where my socks rub. I'm sticking with it, though! I've dropped from 261 to 244 so i'm happy with progress.

Yeah, I think it's a common side effect. I got the skin sensitivity on my legs when I was on 6mg. Barely noticed it at 2mg. My kid had it so bad, he had to quit. My daughter hasn't had any problems, though. Guess some of us are unlucky.

I had that for a while. It got so bad I was thinking about lowering my dose, but it got better after a week and eventually went away completely.

I split my doses, and I don't remember exactly when, but I had some sensitivity (they call it allodynia sometimes) for a couple of weeks. It was on the inside of my arm where it touched my chest. It wasn't too bad, and it took me a while to figure out it was probably the Reta.

It's gone now, or at least I haven't noticed it for a couple-few weeks.

ETA: Sunburn is a good way to describe it.

Yep, been there. Not fun at all!

For me, it was when I went from 4mg every 6 days to 5mg every 6 days.

I was already planning on stopping after a couple of weeks, so it wasn't a big deal.

Sunburn is spot on!

I started getting it at 4mg too, dosing every 6 days. It hasn't stopped, and I've injected 4mg like four times now. I also started getting a full back and ass tattoo in the last month which I think made the pain so much worse lol. Might be related.

Oh my gosh, I thought I was losing it LOL. A prickly feeling that feels like a mild sunburn. It also made my shivers super intense. It's not really painful, so I didn't think it was the Reta. I just figured it was sensitivity from my skin tightening up after losing weight. Cool!

I started Reta splitting doses and starting cautiously. Started at 0.3mg three times a week, didn't notice anything the first week, increased to 0.5mg three times a week, and got allodynia by the end of the week. Didn't realize it was the Reta and continued for another week. The allodynia got worse. When I stopped, it went away after a week or so.

I've tried sema, tirz, and a sema/cagri combo, which is what I use now when I want to suppress food cravings.

I've been on Reta for six weeks now, started at 2 mg, and the skin sensitivity got bad when I bumped it to 4 mg. It lasted for three weeks. I think I increased it too fast. I just dealt with it, but it was awful. Now I'm splitting 4 mg twice a week and feeling better.

When I hit 3mg, I got it around my scalp for about three days after each shot for the last few weeks. It hasn't happened in a while, so fingers crossed.

I got skin sensitivity when I was upping my tirzepatide dose pretty quick, but it went away. Now I'm taking 5mg of Reta and 15mg of tirz, and I get a mild version of it sometimes, but I definitely can't increase the Reta dose anymore 'cause it gets worse. (Trying to maintain 54% weight loss.)

It can be temporary and go away, or if it's annoying and persistent, reducing the dose is the smart move. You said you're at your goal weight, so lowering the dose shouldn't be a big deal. You can always try increasing it again later if you start gaining weight.
