Reta Results: Muscle Loss Real?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
gaining muscle is hard. maybe easier for untrained heavy people but honestly. see it all the time - someone posts weight stalled or went up for a week and someone says 'oh you probably gained muscle'. person's eating protein, walking around, claims deficit - and that's why they didn't drop? nah.

Peptides won't build muscle on their own. First: consistent resistance training, weights heavy enough to actually feel the strain. Second: 0.75–1g protein per pound of bodyweight — not optional. Then maybe testosterone or creatine. Elite athletes add anabolics and HGH.

The muscle loss profile on Reta tracks with deficit rate, not medication-specific mechanism - the glucagon component doesn't add the protective effect that was initially claimed. Starting at 270 and down 74 lbs, the composition outcome at this pace follows resistance training frequency and protein intake more than which agent you're using.

Lifters on this seem to do okay if they keep volume reasonable. I'm running upper/lower split twice each per week - top sets to failure, one back-off, calories around maintenance minus 200. Legs I keep as cardio mostly (rower 20 min plus light dumbbells) since I'm not chasing leg mass. Lost about 6 lbs the first month on Reta and DEXA showed essentially zero LBM drop. Protein at 0.9 g/lb seems to be the main lever.

11 lbs lean out of 40 total at 5 gym days per week is on the lower-loss end for that deficit pace - the resistance work is doing the job. At 230 and 175 lean, body fat is 24% which is solid. The challenge increases as the deficit continues to goal weight.

3kg in 3 weeks at 1mg with zero food noise is a strong early signal. The OP at 270 with 74 lbs of target loss is a much longer journey, but the zero food noise result at 1mg is worth comparing - at 1mg for most people the suppression is partial, so if yours is already complete, the dose question going up becomes about whether the weight loss stays in pace. How long are you planning to hold at 1mg before reassessing?

Getting a baseline Evolt scan the day of your first dose is actually excellent planning - the comparison at 3 and 6 months will be much more meaningful with that starting number. The OP's concern about muscle loss on Reta is real and the scan approach is the right way to track it rather than guessing from the scale. What protein target are you planning to hit alongside it?

0.5mg feeling like nothing the first week is completely normal - it takes several weeks at a consistent dose for blood levels to build enough to see real suppression. The OP's muscle loss concern is a separate question and resistance training plus protein is what determines that outcome more than the medication itself. For someone starting at 184, holding muscle is mostly about not losing too fast and keeping protein high.

Aiming for a one percent weekly reduction as the target. Starting TRT and adding creatine were my two big deviations. TRT ended up being temporary, and creatine muddied the comparison between scale weight and DEXA readings, so dropped it.

Only 13% lean mass lost even with barely any resistance training, that's solid. Are you deliberately hitting a protein target each day?

Yeah those readings aren't super reliable honestly. How often are you lifting? Any chance you're recomping some right now? Hoping your next dose gets things moving in the right direction.

Good to know. On average how long does that puffiness usually stick around? Probably differs from one person to the next, but curious about your specific experience.

Did tesa feel like it actually protected muscle while you were running reta? That's really my main worry. I train, eat clean, and try to maximize protein, but some days it's genuinely hard hitting that target. Literally set phone reminders just to remember to eat.

It genuinely can shift how things get absorbed, yes. First thing worth asking, what method are you using to track the muscle loss specifically? Lean mass covers more than just muscle tissue. When did the weight loss actually begin, and what were your starting numbers versus where you're at now?

Strongly considering retatrutide for a recomp goal given the trial numbers and the string of positive reports I've come across. Still worried about muscle wasting though. Spent a lot of time digging into the underlying science (I get the three mechanisms at least), and it does seem to beat other GLPs on lean mass retention, but separating solid science from confident-sounding anecdotes has been rough.

One claim floating around is that reta doesn't mix well with strict low-carbohydrate eating, maybe dangerously so, though I've never seen that backed by anything beyond bro science. Another insists you have to add a specific peptide on top or muscle loss happens regardless of protein and lifting. Not interested in chasing that setup.

Wondering if anyone can point toward genuinely science-based information specific to reta covering diet macros and what actually helps hold onto lean mass while cutting fat. Barring that, I'd take solid anecdotal evidence too, long term, consistent, accurately measured, showing what has actually worked.

Count me among the strong responders to Reta, still am honestly. Never needed to go past 3.5mg weekly. My wife shed 35 pounds and never exceeded 2.5mg weekly. Nothing melts fat quite like Reta, and for whoever it clicks with, it's genuinely the best option out there.. at least based on what I've witnessed. Good luck to you!
