Semaglutide for weight loss? Anyone?

I've been on it for about a year now. Honestly, I didn't see much movement on the scale until I really buckled down and started a super low-carb diet around last December. Since then, I've managed to drop around 30 pounds. I do think it helps, but it's definitely not a magic bullet – you've gotta put in the work too.

One weird thing I've noticed is that it messes with your taste buds. Foods you used to love just don't do it for you anymore. Like, you might crave your favorite pizza, but then when you eat it, it's just…meh. It's like the reward center in your brain isn't firing the way it used to.

What dosage did you end up settling on? My wife just started, and she's been on 0.5 mg for about three weeks now, after a month at 0.25. I haven't seen any changes at all. It's like she's injecting saline. But like you said, she's not really committed to the diet part. She's got a serious food addiction, so I'm not optimistic.

On the other hand, a friend of ours started around the same time, and it hit her hard. She's got nausea for a couple of days after each shot and barely feels like eating, even when she's not nauseous. Plus, she can't stand the taste of alcohol anymore.

I've been on it for maybe 16 months. Started at .25, then .5, then 1mg, bumping up every 1.5 weeks or so.

I've lost 70-ish pounds, went from 335 to 260 in under a year. The weight just fell off. I'm talking a pound a day sometimes; it felt unreal. People I hadn't seen because of Covid thought I had weight loss surgery. My doc says I've had the most amazing response of all her patients.

The first month or so had some side effects – nausea and constipation were the worst, but they faded after a month.

For about six months, I barely had any appetite, and I could only eat maybe 1/4 of what I used to before feeling stuffed.

Weight loss slowed down after about 8 months. I'm on a maintenance dose of 1mg a week now. I might try 2mg and see what happens, or drop down to .5mg long-term. I'm 6'4".

I'm definitely a lucky outlier.

Does anyone know if Defy offers semaglutide? And are you all using the brand name or getting it from a compounding pharmacy? If it's compounded, which pharmacy are you using?

It felt like injecting water for about 5 months, but since it helps prevent diabetes, I stuck with it. Now, in month 6, it's finally working. I feel full after eating only half my usual lunch or dinner. No side effects, but it's different for everyone.

I agree with @ThinQuest928 that it's important to titrate up carefully! Maybe your wife's dose is too high? My doctor started me at .25mg. I would definitely talk to your doctor about it.

Hey @Inject_Gal, I was also curious about the cost and availability. I heard semaglutide is being compounded now, which makes it more affordable.

Dropping weight often helps with sleep apnea since it's connected to obesity. Losing pounds could unlock a bunch of health gains besides the breathing stuff.

The sodium recommendation is 2300 mg daily, but some electrolyte products pack 1000 mg per serving. I'm on blood pressure meds already, so adding more sodium isn't really in the cards for me. I've been on semaglutide a year and tirzepatide for two months - neither one moved my blood sodium levels. Talk to your doctor before taking any electrolyte stuff.

I was in a similar boat when I started. I came in thinking I'd just maintain where I was, and now I'm actually 15 pounds lighter than that goal. It's wild how well this still works after more than a year. I'm really curious if other people are finding that kind of lasting success too, or if I'm just lucky.

That's awesome! Sema's been great for my results too. Honestly even when I think I'm eating normally, the scale keeps dropping. Makes you realize it's way more than just killing your appetite.
