Sharing GLP-1 use: yay or nay?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
need to lose 60lbs and going slow. but getting my A1C under control is incredible. mood's better, inflammation's down, I have PCOS and got my period back. 3 weeks in, down 4kg mostly water. staying active, eating clean. cravings went from screaming to whispers.

That's awesome you're responding well! I'm 5 weeks in and my body kinda got used to it. Started grazing more and food noise came back. Still eating way less though. Got irritated after a week and a half—pretty annoying but think it was dehydration and low calories. Did a fast to shift to fat-burning, started magnesium to help.

Started tirz yesterday at 2.2mg and it's so quiet — no side effects. Today zero food noise. No voice saying 'eat more because you're bored.' Had to remind myself eating's a good idea. Not hungry. Kinda wild how subtle but how it works lol.

The 'their ignorance isn't your cross to bear' framing is the right one. The physiology of obesity makes the GLP-1 response make complete sense - the people who object loudest tend to be the ones treating weight as a simple effort variable rather than a hormonal and metabolic problem. Not worth explaining yourself to people who haven't done the reading.

The 'never needed the medicine' disqualifier is exactly what makes the judgment so frustrating - the people delivering it have no reference point for what the condition actually requires or what the medication actually addresses. You owe no explanation to people who start from the wrong premise.

The 'critical and judgemental no matter what' observation about weight and social media is one of those things you can't unsee once you notice it. The person trying to lose is criticized for the method, the person succeeding is questioned about sustainability, the person maintaining is asked when they'll stop. Keeping it private is a completely valid call.

Pretty open about it honestly. Tons of people I know have been on GLP-1s through their doctors for years now, doesn't feel that taboo anymore.

Genuinely none of their business whether someone's on this medication class. Part of a recovery program myself and still use cannabis. They're aware, but disclosure was never something forced on me.

Exactly this. Part of why I steer clear of Reddit these days. Hardly ever come across a post there worth pointing someone toward this community. Appreciate that the rules here make people put in some effort before jumping straight into posting, instead of showing up cold asking something like took a tiny dose, should I double it since barely anything dropped after seven days and hoping to only stick with this a couple months.

Just tell them you're watching what you eat because you're trying to lose weight. No need to get into the medication side of things.

Honestly, I haven't told a soul, and keeping it quiet is genuinely the smarter move, otherwise people assume you're taking a shortcut when really it's just a tool that still demands staying on top of macros, calorie targets, protein, and actual exercise. People tend to picture this medication class as some effortless fix, pop it, change nothing else, and watch pounds vanish anyway, when it's really just support that quiets the constant food chatter and dials down hunger. You're still the one actively managing your intake, which is exactly why so many assume it's cheating, since from the outside it looks passive when it's actually a deliberate choice you're making, and calorie awareness stays on your mind regardless. So whenever someone brings it up, mentions the weight loss or that you look great, just say you've been hitting the gym more, that's it, since that's the most unremarkable explanation and nobody's going to question someone saying they picked up weightlifting or started using the stairmaster. Just feels better overall to keep this to yourself and let people notice the results on their own.

If anyone's impolite or pushy enough to ask about using this drug class, feel free to just say no! Mentioning a general focus on health covers it just fine, since that's true either way.

Haven't shared it since I don't want the judgment, criticism, or people trying to talk me out of it. Wouldn't change my decision anyway, just extra hassle I don't need. Plenty of people brush off glp1s entirely and have no clue what living through constant food chatter or binge eating actually feels like. Only one person knows, and they're not against using glp1s for weight loss.
