Skinny People Mad About GLP-1s?

Think of it like this... imagine you're a billionaire in a world of average people. Every new billionaire dilutes your special status. A similar thing happens with naturally thin people when effective weight loss drugs become widespread. Suddenly, they aren't as unique. They may start criticizing the drugs, questioning the motives of the manufacturers, and belittling those who use them, even without understanding their struggles. It's like a typewriter repairman complaining about computers. Eventually, they might find themselves replaced or obsolete.

Thanks for posting! Please remember that discussing non-approved versions or offering to buy/sell medications is against the rules. If you're new, check out the FAQ:

I saw a funny saying online... something like, 'the mean skinny girls better watch out, because the girls who had to develop personalities are about to be hot!' LOL. People always try to find ways to put others down, no matter what. It's sad.

It's weird. I know someone who had gastric bypass and dropped a ton of weight. She tells everyone she just cut out carbs and gets weird when people notice I've lost weight too. She seems bothered that I might also become slim. I hate to think it's true, but maybe there's something to this.

Wait 'til it shakes up the workplace. As a heavier woman, I was often overlooked, even with great performance. Since losing nearly 130 pounds, I've gotten two promotions and have less responsibility now! Men who ignored my emails before now call me directly. Some of the naturally skinny women at my job are... not the best, and they've always been thin. The tides are turning!

Injuries sidelined me from my ultra-running days years back. Then kids and a busy life led to a weight gain up to 340 pounds. I've lost over 60 pounds in 5 months. I view it as a tool to get back to the activities I love. I've completed six 100+ mile races, and I'm not done yet. It's given me back a considerable amount of freedom. Plus, my knees and back don't ache constantly from carrying the extra weight.

I had to distance myself from a couple of really insecure women who became incredibly nasty and jealous when they saw that I had lost over 100 pounds on sema. I don't need that negativity in my life.

I've lost 35 pounds and I feel a million times better! Less pain, more energy, and easier movement. Getting out of the car isn't a chore anymore! I can wear my wedding ring again. And I don't hate my reflection. Anyone who begrudges another person that feeling is just awful.

I've experienced this firsthand. In friend groups, sometimes there's a designated 'fat friend' – someone who feels safe, non-threatening, and makes everyone else feel better about themselves. When that person loses weight, it changes the entire group dynamic. They become more noticeable and attractive, which can be threatening to those who previously held the role of 'the attractive friend.' It can also mean someone else becomes the 'fat friend.' This can lead to shifts in the group's hierarchy and behavior. In my situation, a former 'fat friend' colleague behaved so badly that it changed the course of my career. It eventually worked out for the best, but it was a stressful time.

Okay, naturally slim dude here... I've always been petite with a fast metabolism. My partner is a bigger guy and is doing great with his weight loss journey on weight loss meds. Most of my friends are bigger than me. I support them every step of the way. Not all of us are jerks.

I've said it before, some people base their entire identity and self-worth on being thin. Those are the ones who get really nasty about GLP-1s being 'cheating'.

Interesting. Anyone else a cannabis user here? I'm finding the medication is really changing how cannabis affects me. I'm curious if the 'munchies' still win out, or if the fullness from the drug is stronger. Also, has anyone noticed any change in the timing of when edibles take effect?

I use cannabis pretty regularly. Honestly, sometimes it's the only thing that helps with the stomach issues from the medication. I still get the munchies, but I can't eat as much, which is probably a good thing. I usually just drink more flavored water to scratch that itch. My pharmacist said these meds can interact with others, so be careful!
