Smart Scales for Water Weight?

Hey everyone. I'm a year into my weight loss journey using a GLP-1 med and I've lost around 40 pounds. I've been using a tracker app mostly. I really focus on getting enough protein and staying hydrated, plus I walk every day. I do some strength training sometimes and change up my cardio to get past plateaus. I try to exercise, but I mostly focus on eating in a calorie deficit and drinking plenty of water. I weigh myself every day and I know about water weight and hormone stuff. It took me a while to lose, but I'm 46 and feeling better since seeing old photos! It's crazy how different I see myself now. I'm really happy about how far I've come.

I'm a little bummed because I've been stuck for about 3 months now. I'm on 10mg, using a higher dose pen. I increase my dose when I feel like my appetite is coming back, and I only go up by 1mg at a time instead of 2.5mg because I had some side effects before. I just went up to 10mg from 9mg, but it hasn't helped break the plateau yet.

I'm thinking about getting a smart scale to track water weight more closely to help me understand what's happening during these plateaus. Has anyone used any scales that are really good at tracking water weight accurately? I've been looking at one brand, but I'm not sure how sensitive it is. Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!

I don't think any home scales are totally accurate, but they're good for seeing trends. I have one brand and it's good for tracking those trends.

Home scales aren't super accurate. There are systems for athletes, but they're really expensive, like pro-team level expensive. Scales are better for tracking trends. The actual numbers can be off. If you want a good number, get a DEXA scan and then compare that to your scale. Track trends until you get another DEXA scan.

I have a scale from one brand, and I like it. I had another one, but didn't like it. After losing a lot of weight, I needed to know my body fat. The scale was off. I switched to athlete mode, and it's closer now, but still not perfect. These measurements will change based on a lot of things. Track trends and use an app to track your food, sleep, exercise, and cycle.

Have you thought about if going from 9mg to 10mg wasn't enough for your body? Or maybe you need to adjust your diet and exercise? According to one researcher, each higher dose helps you reach a lower weight. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/j3k3UAEqJio

I went to a store and tried a bunch of scales. They all measured weight the same, even the old-school ones. The price differences were for size, looks, memory, etc. Can't help with the water thing, sorry.

Thanks everyone! I have two different scales. They usually measure weight close to each other, but the other measurements are different. Whatever they're measuring, they're consistent, even though they don't agree with each other. I might ask my doctor about getting a DEXA scan.

Hi everyone...
40 pounds is amazing! Seriously! I remember when I was losing weight and the scale wouldn't move for months. I started tracking measurements and realized my waist and hips were still changing. Sometimes your body changes before the scale does. Especially when you're eating protein, walking, and strength training. The scale doesn't always show those changes right away. Hopefully, you have a whoosh soon. Plateaus are the worst, especially when you're paying for medication.

My smart scale is good for trends, but the numbers aren't right. It showed I lost body fat, and that number was close to my scans.

I have one brand. I'm happy with it. It tells you everything - muscle, water, bone density. It's like a DEXA scan. They're pricey, but worth it.

I saw a post where someone shared their stats. They went from obese to overweight and dropped their body fat a lot. Maybe focus on that instead of water weight? It sounds like it's working for them!

Good point! I've only been on 10mg for a couple of weeks, you're right, maybe I need to give it more time and focus on my diet and exercise. Thanks for the video link, I'll check it out!
