Sterilizing peps with UV?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone tried using ultraviolet light to sterilize their peptides? I was thinking about something like a SteriPEN for purifying water. Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks!

I wouldn't bank on it. Peptides can break down with UV exposure. Plus, those water sterilizers probably won't do the trick. You might end up making things worse. There are UV sanitizing boxes, but honestly, it's probably not worth the hassle.

Just use a filter if you are worried about contamination.

I thought peptides were supposed to be kept in the dark? UV is way stronger than regular light, so it would probably mess them up.
 
Following on the topic of sourcing peptides... I've seen people wondering if 'research peptides' are safe for use. Generally speaking, the consensus is yes, people are using them. But it brings up the point of testing... is what you're getting really what you think it is?
 
Yeah, Janoshik is where a lot of people send stuff. It isn't cheap, but it'll give you peace of mind. If you call out a vendor on a forum after testing, they might just give you credit lol.
 
the autoclave is the gold standard for sterilization but it's not practical for home use and it would destroy most peptides through the heat and pressure involved. UV light doesn't sterilize - it reduces surface bacterial load but doesn't penetrate into solutions or eliminate all pathogens. the practical home answer is sourcing from suppliers with sterile-certified production rather than trying to resterilize after the fact
 
the filter requirement after a sterility failure is the one non-negotiable in this space - a batch that fails sterility is not made safe by any other quality measure, and proceeding without filtering carries real infection risk. the 0.22 micron filter is the standard for removing bacterial contamination, though it does not address all sterility-related concerns. this is the category of test result that should change behavior immediately
