Still hungry on the starter dose :(

I started on Wegovy about a month ago. I'm on the lowest dose and I keep hearing after the very first injection people had no more food noise. When I looked into it, that's supposed to mean you don't care about food. I haven't seen any change at all. I've had some side effects, but still hungry. I know it's only been a few weeks now, but it's discouraging hearing about instant results. I also found out a recurring injury is untreatable, so I'm not feeling great right now either.

Just because the low dose worked for some, doesn't mean it'll work for everyone. Everyone's body is different. Be patient. You might not see the effects until you get to higher doses. Of course, it's possible this med won't work at all for you, but you have choices.

I think I had a similar experience. I was at 275 lbs when I started 0.25mg Ozempic. I stayed around that weight for two months as I went from 0.25 to 0.5. When I got to 1.0mg, in about 4 months I lost 55lbs. The first low doses didn't do anything for me. When I got to 1.0 I didn't have cravings and felt full, so it was easy to eat less. My brain also changed, and I want to exercise and eat healthy. I don't know why, but it worked!

0. 25 isn't even supposed to give you major results. Sure, it does for some people, but 0.25, 0.5 and even 0.75 are all designed to get you to 1 mg, which is the lowest actual treatment dose.

Your starting weight will change how much the starting doses affect you too. It's not perfectly predictable; some bigger people have a huge response, but in general, that's how it works.

And also, for me anyway, food noise doesn't just disappear. I've been on semaglutide for over a year and my BMI is 21 now, so it's really worked, but I still have days when I'm obsessed with food like I used to be – even though the very first 0.25 dose gave me that appetite-killing effect.

tl;dr: it's complicated. Just keep going and trust the process.

I feel what you're going through. I'm grinding on willpower right now. I'm six weeks in (0.05 shot tomorrow). The last few days I'm super hungry. I'm having non-stop food thoughts. I'm eating a calorie deficit consciously, eating whole foods, and about 120g protein per day. But I'm just so hungry. I'm looking forward to getting to 1 mg. Just wanted to say: you aren't alone.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate it. @Jamie2003, it's nice to know I'm not alone. I'm going to stick with it and hopefully see results soon.

Yeah, stress can totally bring back the food noise. At least, it does for me. Work stress is a killer!

Stress definitely impacts the effectiveness of GLP-1 medications for many people. When cortisol levels spike, it can counteract the drug's intended effects. Consider incorporating stress management techniques, such as ashwagandha, which has been studied for its cortisol-regulating properties.

Having trouble with vial pressure on draws. Injecting 2-3x the air volume of my dose but pressure stays insanely high. Medication spurts from both the stopper and needle when I pull out. Tips?

quietness in my head is amazing. still hungry when i'm hungry and enjoy food but don't obsess when i'm not. best part honestly.

took venlafaxine the whole time on this. lost lots, maintenance a year now. appetite suppression is less than the start but still good food noise control. maybe your doc can move you to an SSRI or SNRI?

It takes 12+ hours or more for your body to respond, maybe even 24. If the panic hit earlier than that, it's not chemical from the shot. And right now you're on such a small starter dose it's not meant to be therapeutic yet. That said, if you're still getting chest pain, go to the ER.

The sleeve plus GLP-1 tends to amplify hunger reduction - the two mechanisms compound. At starter dose the appetite shift is real, just quieter than at therapeutic level.

Still hungry on the starter dose at 4 weeks is normal - that dose is for tolerability, not full suppression. The appetite effect builds at each step up.
