Sudden weight drop--normal?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
The stall-then-drop pattern is almost universal once you have been on it long enough to notice it a few times. The bounce after the drop is frustrating because it looks like you regained, but it is just the equilibrium resetting. Trend direction over 2-3 weeks is the only number worth caring about.

The thirst increase on reta compared to Mounjaro is pretty consistent - the glucagon pathway has a real effect on fluid dynamics and more water intake can show up as extra scale drops. A sudden 5 lb drop after a steady pace is usually water, hormonal, or a delayed response to accumulated deficit rather than anything alarming. What dose are you running and how long have you been on it?

47 lbs on Ozempic and then the suppression stopping all at once with 10 lbs back before switching to Mounjaro is the most common trajectory for people who hit that ceiling. The OP's sudden drop at the 5-month mark is actually the opposite pattern - unexpected acceleration rather than plateau. That kind of sudden drop can be dehydration, illness, or a dose response shift. How long has the accelerated loss been going and what changed around that time?

The Mounjaro-as-deficit-enabler framing is the right one - the medication makes the deficit achievable by removing the hunger and food noise, but the deficit still has to be there. If someone stalls, the first question is always whether they're actually in one, because the medication can make people feel full at calorie levels that aren't actually below maintenance.
