Suddenly ravenous on sema?!

Just started semaglutide injections 5 days ago, and this is my first week. Yesterday I was hit with major hunger. I devoured two helpings of pasta! This morning I felt fine. Any idea why I'm getting these hunger pangs?

Expect ups and downs for the first month or so. Just keep going while the medication builds up in your system.

You might still be hungry the first week. My experience was different. I wasn't hungry the first week and actually lost weight, but everyone reacts differently. The goal for the first month is really to get your body used to the medication.

I've only been truly hungry maybe twice in two weeks. And both times I ate sizable portions of protein at dinner. Surprisingly, I lost weight the next morning. My advice: listen to your body, but prioritize nutritious foods like lean protein and healthy fats.

Around day 5, my food cravings start creeping back in. Think of it as practice for real-world situations. It's awesome to step on the scale and see weight loss despite a couple of days of increased appetite. I'm on my 6th shot and down 11 lbs.

Definitely get days where the hunger returns. That doesn’t mean the medication isn’t working. Your appetite can change depending on sleep, stress, and what you're eating.

Update: I stopped the injections. I'm done. Lost 20 lbs, but I feel terrible: sick, nauseous, and constipated. It's not worth the awful feeling, in my opinion. I'll stick to cutting carbs and eating healthy to maintain. Plus, saving $150 a month!

I used it for about 4 months and was always hungry. By the fourth month, I was constantly overeating. I switched to trizepatide and wow, what a difference! No more cravings or constant thoughts about food. I did lose around 33 lbs on the first medication because I was eating only fat-free, sugar-free foods. But I haven't lost anything on trizepatide in two months because I'm stressed and drinking Pepsi (my stress response!). But I haven't gained! I'm upping my dose tomorrow and getting back on track. The first med started with a W and now I'm on one that starts with a Z. Seriously, even with the junk food, the lack of food noise is incredible. I get a slightly upset stomach, which helps me eat less.

That's a totally valid choice. Some people just can't tolerate the side effects, and your health and well-being come first!

I'm on my third 2.5mg dose. I got hungry again on day 5 post-shot the first week. Week 2, it was day 6. This week (week 3), it's Saturday morning, day 6 post-shot, and still not really hungry.

I agree that the first month can be a bit of a rollercoaster. The medication has a half-life of about 5 days, so the effect should balance out after about 4 weeks as it builds up in your system. That's why it's recommended to stay on each dose for a month to allow it to reach its full concentration.

Hang in there, Vial_Tracker. I know it's tough when you're feeling crummy. But if you can push through, it might be worth it. Think about the non-scale victories too. I read a post about someone who started at 270+ lbs and was too big for roller coasters. Now they're in maintenance and feeling great. It's about more than just the number on the scale.
