Super big and starting Mounjaro!

Hey everyone. After months of fighting, my insurance finally okayed Mounjaro. I'm starting it today. I've been overweight my entire life, and extremely overweight (over 600 lbs) for many years. I need to change, or I won't see my kid grow up. That's all that matters. Anyone have advice? I know I'm bigger than most people starting, so any tips would be appreciated.

Here is some advice:

1. Take before photos (front, back, sides). Keep them private. Compare monthly. It will help you stay motivated.

2. Thrift stores will be your friend as you shrink. Think of it as renting clothes. Your shoe size might change, too.

3. Keep a set of old clothes to try on later for fun.

4. Find an active hobby, like volunteering to walk dogs or doing park cleanups.

Congrats on beginning this journey. It will change your life! I'm doing it to see my kids get married and be active with them. I also want to ride a rollercoaster with my daughter. Remember your goals everyday! Here are some tips I have learned:

1) Hydrate! Electrolytes are important. Costco has cheap electrolyte water. Or you can make your own with lite salt.

2) Avoid fast food. It will cause stomach pain.

3) Protein is your friend. Use protein shakes and collagen powder. Aim for 100-150 grams of protein per day.

4) Fiber helps with constipation. An apple and protein shake can help.

5) The first couple of months can be exciting, but it will settle down. Listen to your body. Sometimes hunger is really thirst.

6) Don't rush to the highest dose. Wait until you plateau.

7) Try the 30/30/30 thing: protein, 30 minutes after waking, 30 mins of cardio.

8) Oral meds may take longer to digest.

9) The meds might wear off after day 5. I take my shot on Saturdays.

10) If you're nauseous, eat something small.

Good luck!

You can do it. My blood sugar was way out of control. Now it's great after 3 months. I've lost about 70 lbs. I'm only on the 2.5 dose.

I've lost about 230 lbs during the last year and a half. I started with keto and then Mounjaro, then Ozempic and back again. Then I had weight loss surgery a few months ago and I'm down more than 300 pounds overall. I'm about to be in the 300's for the first time in over 20 years. You can do it! DM me if you want to chat.

Read the forums and learn from other people. Hydrate a lot. Eat healthy. Listen to your body. What are your triggers? Mental health matters. There are free self-help videos on YouTube. Exercise - walk, stretch, whatever you can do. Take care of yourself. We're here to support you!

You're going to do great! This medication will really help you. I took it during the day at first to see the side effects. Now I take it before bed. Peppermint pills help with nausea. Have Pepto, Mira-lax, senna tea, and milk of magnesia ready. Think about protein and how to get 100g daily. Hydrate. Listen to your body!

Congrats on starting! My tips:

- Drink lots of water or you will get constipated.
- Take a fiber supplement.
- Have protein shakes on hand. When you increase the dose, you might not eat much. Protein helps minimize muscle loss.
- Be okay with slow weight loss. Aim for 2 lbs a week.
- Fill your prescriptions ASAP to build up a backup supply.
- Buy new clothes as you shrink!

One thing that I wish I knew before starting GLP-1s is that for some people, it's a lifelong med. I see people asking how to go off it and not gain weight... but if you have a hormonal issue, it may not be possible!
