Supplements: all the hype?

5 weeks in - 4 on 0.25, then 4 days on 0.5. Felt a bit constipated but manageable. Yesterday I had half a portion of nasi goreng with a fried egg and got wrecked all night - sulphur burps and diarrhea this morning. No eggs for me again. Only lost a kilo so far but early days.

Hey everyone! So, I've been seeing a ton of stuff online saying you need like, a million supplements when you start these meds. I know about fiber and protein and keeping up with electrolytes, but can't I just get that from food? Or do I actually need all the powders and pills? Starting my first GLP-1 soon!

Nah, not really needed if you're eating good stuff and getting enough protein and fiber! But really, think about getting electrolytes. Water alone might not cut it, especially if you're like me and love coffee.

Don't bother with all that! I'd suggest getting your vitamin D and B12 checked every so often. My B12 kept dropping as I lost weight.

Absolutely not. Try to get what you can from your food and only add stuff when you actually need it.

If you're getting headaches, it's probably from not drinking enough. Electrolyte drinks help a lot, and you can find recipes online to make your own.

I think it's different for everyone. I need supplements to keep things moving, if you know what I mean. I take a stool softener in the morning and fiber gummies at night. Plus a hair supplement and some iron. Costs me around $50 a month, but I was already taking supplements before starting my GLP-1, so...

You definitely don't need a ton of expensive stuff. A cheap bag of psyllium husk, some protein powder, and an electrolyte mix will cover your bases. Try to get your protein from food first! Supplements just fill in the gaps. What does your diet look like right now?

Nope. Real food has everything you could possibly need.

That said, some supplements are just handy. I take a multi because I'm prone to deficiencies, and eating less will just make it worse. Protein powder is great when I need to eat but don't feel like it. I also take fiber sometimes, but I try to get it from food.

Do you get your blood tested regularly to see what you're low on? And are those supplements medical grade and tested by an independent party?

The supplement industry is often just like Big Pharma – all about the money. And so are those TikTok people (money and fame).

Supplements should *supplement* what you're not getting from food. Get some tests done to see what you actually need. Some companies might even pay for that kind of testing. But don't let TikTok be your guide, in health or anything else.

I don't even track macros like protein, and my labs are perfect. Plenty of energy to work out every day too.

I struggle with ideas for what to eat. What are some go-to breakfast, lunch, and dinner options that are easy to prepare?

I agree with PinLady -- protein is KEY. I've stalled before even though I was eating 1200-1400 calories. I wasn't getting enough protein. Protein shakes, greek yogurt, cottage cheese helped me a lot!

for me food noise was that constant pull toward leftovers. always there. obsessing till i caved, then feeling bad after. semaglutide changed that completely — the voice in my head just… quieted. food became something i thought about when hungry, not an all-day loop.

emotional eating was my whole thing, and mounjaro made that noise just... quiet. still want stuff sometimes but that constant all-day thinking about food? gone. first couple months i still had the pull but 4 months in it's genuinely different. the urge's just not there anymore.

Started 4 lbs down but prob water weight lol. Got heartburn right after first dose but nothing crazy. Only hit the bathroom once so far, using restorlax to help. Trying to eat good but getting enough protein is a pain. Lots of water with electrolytes + Greek yogurt breakfast, salad lunches with chicken, snacking on fruit + nuts. We'll see how it goes.
