Thin privilege? It's real after GLP-1s!

After 14 months on semaglutide and tirzepatide, I'm down 88 pounds! Then lost another 5 over the course of about 18 months. I’ve been maintaining within a 10-pound window for almost two years while still on tirzepatide (adjusted due to diet and fluids). My A1C was crazy high, but now it's normal. What’s different now that I've slimmed down? I can pack more clothes, comfortably sit on planes, and no longer stress about finding outfits that fit. Events? Yes, without wardrobe worries. Coats and jackets? Easy peasy, no more plus-size hunts. Walking for hours while traveling? A total breeze, no extra weight lugging. And yes, people treat me way better. But the biggest win? All the mental energy I used to waste on my weight – trying to lose, feeling bad about not losing enough, stressing over clothes, being unhappy with my body. Clearing that headspace has been the ultimate reward. For those on this path, stick with it – it's worth it.

Totally! I lost about 100lbs myself. I gained it over maybe 5 years, so wasn't always big. I feel like myself again – looking good, more flexible. I'm exercising, biking – squats are easier. People are suddenly nicer, and I'm getting noticed, even at 54 – maybe even more than when I was younger. It's pretty wild.

That’s amazing! I actually went to a store the other day, which I never did before losing weight. I asked the sales associate if a brand’s sizing was accurate, and she said, 'You're quite slim; you'd probably be a small.' I usually wear a medium or size 8, but I've never been called slim in my LIFE. Made my day, maybe my life!

Well said! I totally agree! I'm at a 'normal' weight now, and the way people treat me is what stands out most. More smiles, more introductions in meetings, the works. It's made me want to be extra kind to people who are bigger (which is totally fine!), smiling and saying hello. It's turned me into a bit of a body positivity advocate, which I didn't expect. But yeah, feeling privileged too. Good luck to everyone, and let's treat each other with kindness.

Just being able to order clothes in regular sizes still blows my mind. Straight-sized stores are overwhelming with options! But I love when something arrives and it actually fits! Being a solid XL is amazing.

Yes, overweight people, especially those who are morbidly obese, are treated horribly and seen as less worthy. The difference in how I'm treated now is so noticeable, and while it feels good, it's also incredibly sad. I feel compelled to educate people about this potentially life-saving medication. No one should have to endure this disease.

It's crazy, I actually shop for clothes less now because everything fits! I'm not always searching for something new because what I have doesn't fit or look good anymore. It feels great to say, 'Nah, I've got a pair of jeans that look great. I don't need more.'

Can I add that eating in public is SO much better now! I don’t feel self-conscious at all now, and I don’t spend any time thinking about what others think of my food choices. Remember eating salads when you wanted pizza, just to avoid the 'fat person eating junk' looks?

Hitting my goal weight is awesome, but a little scary. Anyone have tips on how to maintain and not gain it all back? I'm thinking of reducing my dose slowly...

I've heard that focusing on strength training is key for keeping muscle mass. Also, don't beat yourself up if you overindulge during holidays!

I'm planning to stay on a low dose indefinitely. I've heard some people cycle off and on to prevent resistance, but I'm not sure about that. I'm mostly concerned about my A1C creeping back up. I might try a newer generation med at a low dose if this ever stops working for me, though.

I'm also interested in tips for maintaining my weight. I've reached my goal, and it's a strange feeling! I'm trying to focus on building muscle now and rethinking my wardrobe!

I'm 27 from North Carolina between jobs. Sono Bello does non-surgical skin tightening and the results look good in their ads. They probably work on guys too if you're interested.
