Time to bump the dose?

Okay, so I was taking Tirzepatide, like 12.5mg near the end. I managed to drop around 75lbs in about a year and a half, but then I hit a wall for what felt like forever, maybe half a year. Switched down from Tirz and started upping Reta. I've been totally off Tirz for two months, and on Reta for about six weeks. I'm doing 2mg of Reta every 3 days, which is basically 4mg each week. I do have more pep in my step. I'm hitting the weights three times a week, making sure I get my steps in, and monitoring my protein intake. But, I've also put on 5-6 lbs. And I'm not seeing any of those other wins either; my clothes still fit tight. If I were seeing any changes, I wouldn't be asking if I should up the dose, lol. So, I'm four weeks into this 2mg every 3 days/4mg weekly dose. I get that sometimes you need a higher dose for it to really kick in, especially if you were already on another GLP1. So, should I go up? Next week will be week seven of Reta for me. Trying to be patient here, but I'd appreciate any advice you can give. I haven't had any bad side effects from Reta, but I didn't really have any issues with Tirz either.

@Dose_Guy Tell me more about that, I haven't seen anything about skin issues. What's happening and where? And are you injecting once a week?

I'm on week 9, working my way up to 6mg a week, one injection. Around week 2, I got skin sensitivity and some tingling, which was okay, but I'd also get this painful itching that felt like pin pricks in random places. I switched my injection spot to my legs and that helped a lot, but I ran yesterday and my legs are sore, so I injected in my belly thinking the skin thing was a beginner thing I was past... NOPE, it's back and bad for the last week. My last shot was in my thigh, so hopefully it'll go away again.

The skin sensitivity can be really irritating and honestly, tiring. But it's still better than being overweight. I had it a lot when I was increasing my dose, and then it went away for a bit. Now it seems to come and go.

Sitting at 6mg and still getting pin prickling and itching
If you're already having skin sensitivity at 6mg, why not increase to 8mg? You already have the side effect you were trying to avoid.

That's a good point... I figured it would get worse.. but you might be right, it might just stay the same.. I think I'll try 7mg and see what happens, and I'll let you know if it gets worse or stays the same.

Hey @BlairPlus - If you're feeling good and just a little impatient, maybe hold off a bit? I saw this doctor online say to go low and slow with dosing. It might be worth looking into! Check out this video: https://youtu.be/j3k3UAEqJio

@BlairPlus I'd say if you aren't seeing movement, and it's been over a month, it's probably time to consider going up. No point in staying at a dose that isn't doing anything!

I've been on the lowest dose for almost half a year now, and still seeing results.

My question is, is it time to go up?
If you are losing, no need to go up. If you've stalled completely maybe consider it but talk to your doc first!

It's best to stick to the lowest dose that still works for you. No need to rush to a higher dose if you're still responding.

Totally agree! Save the higher doses for later when you need them.

Way more convenient to dial in the right dose with it. When you're doing daily shots it saves you time and cuts down on wasted doses.

honestly you can keep going past three or four months without worrying too much. worst case scenario the potency drops a tiny bit, so what you think is 3.5 might actually be closer to 3.3 or so after a few months sitting. the infection thing? super unlikely but yeah you'd know real fast if that happened.

Have the brand name mounjaro and feeling basically nothing right now. Either I need to increase my dose or my levels haven't risen enough since restarting 2 weeks back after taking a month off.

Those clinical trials try to get maximum results super fast without too many dropouts from side effects. Real life doesn't have those same deadlines and going slower is really recommended. Obviously won't stay at this dose forever, but takes a month or so for the dose to fully work in your system.

People respond so differently. I take half the dose of what some folks do and it's working great for me. The trick is moving slowly and staying at one level for about a month before bumping up. You can always dial it back or quit if something doesn't feel right.
