Tirz stronger than sema?

Is tirz that much more effective? My friend started her injections months after I did, and she's on tirz and lost so much more weight than me!

I think it is! I was on sema for over a year and switched, and the lowest tirz dose still worked well. My labs improved when I switched too.

The trial results pointed to greater weight loss with tirz on average (5-7% higher), especially for those with a considerable amount to lose. Tirz works on both GLP-1 and GIP pathways, while sema targets only GLP-1. This might explain why tirz is more effective, mainly for people who don't respond to sema.

Yes, it often works better, and many report fewer side effects. However, some do better on sema; everyone is different. I only lost 17 pounds in about 9 months on sema with serious side effects. Once I switched to tirz, I dropped roughly 40 pounds in the same amount of time.

If you're losing weight well with minimal side effects, don't worry about other options, especially if you're on a high sema dose already.

It depends on what issues were preventing weight loss. Sema only targets GLP-1, but it's good for 'food noise.' If that's your struggle, sema may be better for sticking to a reduced calorie intake. Tirz has an additional pathway, but its GLP-1 effect may not be as strong as sema's. Because Sema helps me with intermittent fasting more effectively, I lose more effectively with it. You need to know your specific barriers to weight loss to pick the correct GLP-1.

I see so many posts saying X is way better than Y. But really, it's different for each of us. Some people have better side effects profiles and weight loss on sema, while tirz works better for others. Just listen to your body; don't rush weight loss, because that causes other issues (loose skin, weight regain, etc.). Healthy weight loss is like 1-2 lbs a week. I've lost 120lbs and been on both. Sema worked better for me with fewer side effects. I maxed out on sema and switched to tirz, but my body did not like it. My weight loss on tirz has been all over the place, and the side effects are worse. Luckily, I'm almost at my goal weight. If I could go back to sema, I would. But that's just me. If you are loosing, I wouldn’t suggest switching just to get faster results. It's not a quick fix but an aid for health conditions like obesity. If you’re already making great progress, stick with what works!

It truly depends who you ask! Some people switch to sema after an okay experience with tirz – but technically, yes, it is slightly more potent from the study data. When I started tirz, I experienced almost immediate appetite suppression, with little to no side effects. Getting to that level of appetite suppression with sema was a 3-4 month process for me and came with a ton of nausea.

Hmm. Sema comes with more unwanted effects, while tirz has a stronger impact on cravings and that 'food noise'. I personally prefer Sema, though.

I started on ozempic, then switched to mounjaro a year later, and I think it's stronger. It just "feels" different. It quiets the food noise the same, but I feel fuller longer. I really like it!

I lost more weight on sema, but it was because I felt sick all the time. I can eat normally on tirzepatide and not be miserable.

I've noticed that progress pics really help me stay motivated. Zappy Health recommended taking them every month, and it's crazy to see the changes over time. Like Slightly_Smaller said, everyone reacts differently, but seeing progress keeps me on track.

It really is like night and day, isn't it? Glad it's working for you!

For those switching from sema to tirz, some people report different side effects. For example, some people who experience nausea with sema find they have diarrhea with Tirz and vice versa. Keep a journal and track your body’s response.

The FAQ pinned at the top of the forum covers all of these starting points - sourcing, reconstitution, dosing protocols, and injection technique. Starting there before posting specific questions gets faster answers and avoids re-covering ground that's already been mapped out in detail.
