Tirzepatide + Cannabis - Anyone else?

Tirz has killed my appetite and ended constant thoughts about food. But when I use cannabis, it's like the medication never happened. The munchies are INTENSE.

Anyone else deal with this? How do you handle cravings when high without extreme willpower?

That's been my experience too so far. I've been on Tirz for about half a year, and using thc gummies for a third of that, and smoking in particular recently. I'm trying to cut back to just twice a week, but I've been able to satisfy the cravings with healthier snacks. I just grab carrot sticks, rice cakes, anything low cal with a nice crunch. It's not AS intense as without Tirz, but it's definitely still there. It only makes me go over my planned calories by a little bit because I make sure to eat lighter earlier in the day if I know I'm going to light up later.

My father-in-law takes Tirz for both his type 2 diabetes and to lose weight, and he enjoys cannabis every Friday night. Every Saturday he regrets it because the cannabis completely negates the benefits of the medication, and he overeats.

No, I haven't had that issue. I use cannabis pretty often, and I don't really get the munchies anyway. It just helps with my discomfort and elevates my mood. I haven't seen any changes, personally. Maybe you just need MORE cannabis! Kidding, I think.

This study helps explain the connection between cannabis and appetite-related hormones. They found a trend for changes with glp1 (p 0.08) related to cannabis use, but significant changes for other hormones. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9458022/

In short: “cannabis administration in this study modulated blood concentrations of some appetitive and metabolic hormones, chiefly insulin, in cannabis users”

I smoked for almost half a century before starting Tirz, and I quit the day I took my first dose. Seeing this makes me feel like I made the right call. The best part about quitting is that I don't crave it AT ALL, just like sweets or beer. Maybe I'm lucky, but I love Tirzepatide!

I'm so glad to see this post! I live in a legal state, and I've always used cannabis heavily. It definitely contributed to my weight gain because everything tastes amazing when I'm high. I thought I'd have to stop completely while on tirz, but it turns out the tirz totally kills the munchies, even when I'm high!

Weed and Tirz affect everyone differently, but in my case, the munchies are GONE while using tirz.

Hey there, I'm a big person; I've been on the road for a long time. I'm not using GLP-1s yet. But I've been using gummies for a while now to deal with stress. I was definitely a munchies monster with regular THC, both sativa and indica... but I came across some Indica with a 5-1-1 ratio, with the 5 being CBG, and it just relaxes me and makes me want to go to sleep after a couple of hours. I don't get the munchies or overeat at all. Just sharing in case it helps anyone!

I'm happy for you, but also, screw you lol.

It curbed my hunger the first couple of times, but not anymore. Tirz works great on its own, but it also feels like the THC is stronger than ever.

My friend keeps complaining that Tirz isn’t working for her. She is only in her second month and is about to increase to 6 mg every five days. She also smokes weed every day and works at a bar that has a full kitchen.

Sometimes you just can’t out-Tirz the smoke. You gotta choose.

I had to add a couple of new notches to my belt, so I've stayed away from cannabis. I wasn't a heavy user anyway.

I just went up to 6mg this week (3mg on Monday and 3mg on Friday). I'm on week 11, and this was my first time increasing from 5mg to 6mg.

I saw something interesting that might help some folks in this thread. There's a pilot program for GLP-1 education that uses a Duolingo-style format. It could be a good resource for understanding more about your journey and managing expectations. I think they were looking for testers too.

It's interesting how much emphasis is placed on the medication, but not on lifestyle changes! I saw a headline that said something about a 'groundbreaking discovery' that food may be making us fat, LOL.

My munchies are relentless, lol.
Maybe the relentless munchies are the problem and not just the weed?

That's fair! I definitely don't have the best habits outside of the cannabis, either. I'm trying to get educated about it. I even saw something about a Duolingo pilot for GLP-1 info? I should find that.
