Tirzepatide messing with my stomach :(

So, I've been taking Tirzepatide for a month now. The past few days have been rough with bowel issues (mostly diarrhea and bloating), which could be from the Tirz, or maybe something else. I had some stomach problems *before* starting the injections too, so who knows. It's been a week since my last dose and my appetite is definitely returning. Should I wait until my stomach settles down before taking another shot?

The wait-or-shoot question comes up constantly — this guide on GI symptoms and shot timing has people weighing exactly that with bowel issues.

I've heard that the upset stomach thing usually gets better over time. Maybe look into Retatrutide? People say it gives you less tummy trouble, but more of other kinds of side effects.

It's possible that next shot will make it worse. I had a really bad bout of diarrhea that made me faint and crack my head on the sink. I ended up calling 911. I had a virus on top of it. But since I never had that kind of thing happen to me before turning 50, I think the Zepbound played a part.

Early on when I started tirzepatide, I had a similar situation - terrible diarrhea. I was scheduled for my next dose the following day. Since I figured it was the medication, I delayed the shot until my GI issues cleared up, which took a couple of days. Even if the diarrhea isn't from the tirzepatide, I suggest holding off on your next injection until things improve. You might experience increased hunger, but prioritizing your GI health is crucial before introducing more medication.

Oh man.

The struggle is real. Tirz induced constipation gave me hemorrhoids for the first time ever.

I'm thinking of taking a 3-week break to get back to normal.

Well, I went ahead and took the 3mg shot this morning. I'll update this thread when my stomach calms down for anyone else who might be in the same boat. So far, no worse.

Just an update: the day of the injection, I didn't get any worse. Then the next day, I felt pretty much back to normal (although no 💩 yet, but I'm also not eating a ton). Also, the appetite suppression from Tirz is nuts. Saturday I didn't eat until 4PM, after being pretty active all day, and I could only eat a tiny portion before feeling completely stuffed. I actually had to make myself eat more protein later.

Keeping things regular has been hard since starting tirz five months ago. Sometimes, I'll go three times in one day, then be backed up for nearly a week. You'll figure out what works for you. Hopefully, the diarrhea is over for you.

I know what you mean, Wise-Path. The constipation is awful. I've been trying stool softeners and more water, but it's still a struggle. I might try Miralax next.

FYI, if you're still having constipation, some people find that sugar-free candy will get things moving again. Sugar alcohols are known to have a laxative effect and some other sugar substitutes act similarly.

The GI stuff usually settles after a few weeks. Eating small amounts, staying hydrated - both help. Hang in there, first month is the hardest.

Greasy food is the main trigger. The gallbladder adapts to lower fat intake and then gets hit hard when fat returns. Keeping fat low for a few weeks tends to settle it.

Stomach as injection site is fine and the 2-inch guidance is correct. GI symptoms in month one are usually from the medication itself rather than the site.
