UK Folks: Sharps Disposal?

Morning, everyone. I'm in the UK. I've mixed up my first dose, which is great. But I can't figure out the best way to get rid of my sharps container once it's full. I've been searching online without success. How do you all handle it?

I'm not 100% sure about the UK but where I'm at there are city or county services for public health and safety that deal with this issue. If they can't take it, they should have leads on who does. My partner is in medicine, so we have the luxury of taking ours to her clinic.

Check with your primary care doctor’s office, and if they are unable to assist, try your local hospital. Also, many local authorities offer a collection service, so check their website too. Some pharmacies will accept them too, so enquire locally.

I meant to include hospitals in my initial response but left it out. Like I said, if those public health centers don't take them, they'll know someone who does. You'll get it sorted!

Some pharmacies are part of council programs for disposal. An easy way to reduce the number of sharps is using needle removers. They can hold 1500 needles, allowing you to toss the empty syringe. That could delay disposal for years!

I’ve just got a pile of them in a drawer. I figured my kids can deal with it later. Is that a bad idea?

Why not do like those old medicine cabinets with the slot for razor blades? Drill a hole in the wall, and boom, instant disposal!

I use an app to track my injections. It helps me keep everything straight, because I know I'll mess things up otherwise!

That's a good idea! I've been injecting in my thigh, but plateaued for a few weeks. Maybe I'll try my stomach next time and see if it helps.

Just remember the area you inject can change the speed that your dose works! The navel area has the speediest absorption, then the upper arm, and then the legs and butt. If you work out a limb right after injecting the uptake may also be quicker there.

I've tried a few spots, but I haven't noticed much of a change, really. The arms are the one place I haven't tried much. I've been losing at a steady rate, so I'm not bothered about sites just yet.

been on it 6 weeks. started 1mg daily 5 days a week, now at 2.5mg every day. skin texture feels softer and thicker already. turkey neck's a bit less noticeable too. just based on texture alone i'm sticking with it. curious what 3–6 months brings.

Pharmacies in the UK also often accept sharps containers - worth calling ahead to confirm before making a trip. Many GP surgeries take them too.

the rethinking of filtration practice after reading contamination discussions is a common inflection point - the difference between 'I have been fine so far' and 'I understand what I am actually filtering for' is worth having before a problem rather than after. the UK sharps disposal question has a practical answer through local pharmacy or GP surgery sharps return programs that most councils run
