Vacation & GLP-1s: A Cautionary Tale

Hey all. Started on Oz back in Sept '23 and I'm down almost 55lbs! Last week, the hubby and I took a trip and I decided to pause the injections to really indulge at the resort. Big mistake. HUGE. Even skipping just a single dose, you can't eat like there's no tomorrow. One night I ate like I used to, and the next morning... oh boy. Nonstop waves of nausea all day and eventually I lost it, projectile style. Sorry if that's too much info, but I felt I should share my hard-earned lesson.

Oh yeah, I know that feeling! I had to stop for a couple of weeks before a procedure and didn't notice any real change. I've heard it sticks around for a while. Usually when I'm on vacation, I still enjoy everything, I just can't put away as much. But yeah, I've been there with the 'yucky' experience too! I've shed around 68 pounds since May '23 and have been maintaining for about 3 months now.

I paused my dose once when traveling, thinking I'd get back to my old eating habits. Nope.

Good news: I didn't gain any weight. I ate whatever looked good, but my appetite was way smaller.

I took my final injection a week prior to heading to Asia. My body decided to revolt at every temple I visited. At least the bathrooms were top-notch in South Korea and Japan! If I was going to have that kind of experience, I'm glad it was there and not somewhere else.

Thanks for the lovely image of "projectile vomiting." Reminds me of when I was on Rybelsus. I knew the nausea was a possibility, but didn't expect The Exorcist levels of it.

Yup, a week really doesn't make a huge difference. Some medical stuff requires you to stop a week (or more!) beforehand and I've found it doesn't really change anything.

Totally agree! I had to discontinue it for 2 weeks before a surgery, and some docs want you off for even 3 weeks. Hope you're feeling better!

"go to the chair" LMAO. That's too funny. You mean the electric chair, I'm guessing? I love your sense of humor!

I was actually planning to make a post about this today! I've been swamped at work and didn't make it to the pharmacy. So I skipped a couple of doses.

Yesterday I had dinner... a much bigger meal than I've had in ages.

Last night was awful. I was in serious pain and eventually threw up. I took a muscle relaxant to deal with the cramps and finally fell asleep. Woke up still hurting.

Today, I feel terrible. I have a headache, and I still feel a little sick.

Never again.

Yeah, it hangs around in your system for weeks, so I never got why people skip meds for vacation. I learned that lesson (with alcohol) on a trip once and woof did I pay the price lol. Even after I stopped taking it, it took maybe a month before I could eat a normal portion again.

To really go wild, you'd prob have to stop like 2 weeks before the trip.

Good to know! I'm planning a cruise for winter '25 and want to cut loose a little, so I'll keep that in mind.

Just a heads up - if you're on blended peptides and using a calculator, be super careful with the values. It's easy to mess up the dosage, especially with blends. I had to play around with the numbers to get the right amount. Double-check everything!

Anyone ever accidentally use an expired pen? I grabbed one outta the fridge the other day without looking, and only after the fact did I realize it was past its date. Should I be worried?

I've totally done that! If it was stored in the fridge and the liquid looks clear, you should be fine. Think of it like regular meds – they don't just turn bad overnight.
