Vortex mixers: Worth it?

Thinking about getting one of those vortex mixers. Turning the vials to mix is easy enough, but those mixers look kinda cool lol. Like a science experiment! Anyone know if it's a good idea, or would the fast mixing hurt the peptides and break them down? I know labs use them, but not sure if all compounds can handle it.

I wouldn't bother with it... I remember hearing that you don't have to baby them as much as some people say (like people telling you to only gently roll the vial)... but I've seen those mixers. That might be overkill lol.

Interesting discussion. I'd be more concerned about proper storage. Remember that peptides, once mixed, degrade quickly. Unmixed peptides should be refrigerated as soon as you get them, preferably. I learned the hard way...lost a bit of potency because I left a vial out for a few days before refrigerating.

Adding to ShapeCrew's point, the stability of reconstituted peptides is highly variable. Some are only stable for a few days at room temperature, while others can last a few weeks in the refrigerator. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions or the compounding pharmacy's guidelines for specific storage recommendations. Improper storage can definitely lead to degradation!

So, dumb question maybe, but are peptides supposed to be shipped already mixed up? Just got my first order and it was already reconstituted, which I thought was weird. Should I be worried?

It's not ideal. Some pharmacies do ship them that way, but reconstituted peptides at room temperature degrade rapidly. Contact the pharmacy and find out if it was shipped with ice packs. If not, there's a good chance it's lost potency. It's also worth asking them why they ship reconstituted. A reputable pharmacy should prioritize peptide stability.
