Waking up feeling icky on Zep...

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like they're getting a bug every morning after starting Zep? I'm three weeks in, and every morning, I feel like I have the flu. Lasts for about an hour and a half after I wake up. Any tips on how to avoid this before bed?

That's not typical, no. I haven't heard of that happening to anyone. Are you drinking enough fluids? You definitely need to hydrate more than normal. And try electrolytes on injection days. Also, a daily B12, magnesium, and multivitamin could help.

I second what FitGirl said about water, electrolytes, and vitamins. I'm on sema right now, and I get nausea sometimes. I take vitamins regularly (especially B12 since I'm vegan), but I sometimes struggle to drink enough water. I find that dehydration is usually the culprit for my nausea, and my doctor agrees.

I've been taking vitamin B supplements for 2 years now. I understand that coffee or tea can mess with vitamin B12 absorption, so avoid drinking them at the same time. Try taking it with a meal or right after one. Taking B12 with a meal helps use stomach acid to absorb it. Make sure the meal contains some fat and protein; these nutrients help with absorption.

Adding to what Charlie_49 mentioned regarding B12 absorption, some individuals find sublingual B12 to be more effective, as it bypasses the digestive system. If you're experiencing persistent symptoms despite oral supplementation, discuss alternative routes of administration with your healthcare provider. Also, ensure you're discussing all supplements with your prescribing physician to avoid any potential interactions.

I can totally relate! I've had to set reminders on my phone to drink water because I just forget sometimes. Especially when I first wake up, that nausea is the worst.

I'm wondering if your dose is maybe too high Zenxo? When I started, the lowest dose was enough to make me not want to eat anything. Some days, just the thought of food made me feel sick. Maybe talk to your doctor about dialing it back a bit?

I've noticed that when I wait too long to eat, I feel even worse. I'm never really hungry, but I try to eat small, healthy meals with fiber and protein regularly. Soups are easier for me, too. It's been about 2 months and it's definitely getting better!

Expanding on FitGirl's comment, nausea is a common side effect, especially when initiating GLP-1 therapy. Consider dividing your daily food intake into smaller, more frequent meals. Prioritize protein, as it can help reduce nausea. Also, explore different injection sites; some patients find that injecting in areas other than the abdomen minimizes side effects. Finally, a probiotic can help mitigate constipation, another common issue.
