Wegovy price cuts?! (with a catch)

Just picked up 2x 1mg generic pens as a replacement for the 1.7mg wegovy dose. Any sense whether this is actually the best deal out there? Wondering if Ozempic or wegovy with a savings card might beat it. Generics are running $176 monthly right now.
 
The doctor's wrong here. It's the manufacturer setting the new pricing, pharmacies have nothing to do with that decision. Unless the manufacturer itself lowers what it charges, individual pharmacies have no obligation to absorb that difference on their own.

Also worth knowing, the drug company isn't required to match anything, they're choosing to in order to protect sales.

Current situation breaks down like this: the generic GLP-1 has gotten approval as an Ozempic alternative, but not as a Wegovy alternative. So the company matched pricing on the generic Ozempic side only, since there's technically no approved generic standing in for Wegovy specifically, even though it's the same underlying drug.

That's exactly why the generic pens only ship in doses matching Ozempic, not Wegovy.

Best move is having the prescription written without naming either brand, just the drug class itself, with 'generic OK' noted alongside it. That's what got done here.
 
Hit the out-of-pocket max back in early May, so every recent prescription's come through free. Actually only ended up paying under $400 total, though two of the medications had other payers involved.
Ozempic runs $50 for three pens under this plan.
 
Insurance didn't cover my compounded prescription and it cost about $600 out of pocket, they moved me onto Wegovy at $200. I think I'm eating more on Wegovy than before. Dosing is weird too. The label on the compounded one said 2.5mL at 1/0.5 mg per mL
 
What people overlook is that clinics selling the unbranded version often raise their fee as the dose goes up. That causes two problems: it pushes people to squeeze the most out of a low dose because of cost, and it creates shame or a sense of failure when they lose less, or stall, at those low doses. That's a problem because nobody should expect much weight loss on low doses. The maker has Ozempic, a low dose designed for diabetics, and Wegovy, the higher dose aimed at weight loss. Every Ozempic commercial says weight loss is only a possibility. That's no accident, since they know the lower dose doesnt give reliable loss. So circling back, you aren't doing anything wrong, except for not climbing the dose schedule that yields dependable results.
