Quick test for everyone who thinks they know their dose. Take the vial you are running right now and find where it states how much peptide is inside. Not the big flashy number on the front, the small print. Is that number the net peptide content or the total mass of the cake including excipients.
If you cannot tell from the label, you already found the problem. Freeze dried peptides do not ship as pure crystals. They are commonly stabilized with bulking agents, mannitol being a frequent one, because a bare peptide would be fragile, hygroscopic and miserable to handle. That means the powder in your vial is a mixture, and only a fraction of it is the compound you paid for.
Now the uncomfortable part. When you divide the vial into doses using the big number, your arithmetic is silently assuming the entire cake is active. If the label only states total mass and the net content is elsewhere or nowhere, every dose you calculated was a guess dressed up as precision.
Some vendors print both figures. Some bury the net content in a separate document. Some let you do the detective work. I went through the vials I had at home and the results were all over the place, which is exactly why I am posting this.
So here is the exercise. Pull up three listings from three different vendors and compare how each one states content. Report back what you found. I suspect the pattern will embarrass a few popular names, and I would love to be wrong.
