Zepbound single-dose vials?

Heard about this on another platform, wanted to get your thoughts...

"Only goes up to the 5mg dose. After that, you gotta get the pens. Sounds like their strategy is to get people to test it out and then switch 'em over to the pens." - Comment from a user on Reddit.

Makes sense from a business angle. It's just a different way to do rebates, coupons, etc. Give a lower price to get people in the door.

Also, it might help some people get coverage. If you can show a history of using it and that you're getting benefits at these doses, it could help you get approved for higher doses later on.

I think it could be a bad idea. My reasoning is that a lot of folks aren't going to understand how to use it properly. I'm not trying to say anyone isn't intelligent. But I've already seen people online who thought an entire vial contained just a single 2.5mg or 5mg dose, instead of four doses. They just needed to read the instructions.

@HeartSquad
I get what you're saying, but in this case, the whole vial *is* one dose.

No need to worry about 'units' or complicated calculations for anyone anxious or not-so-mathematically inclined.

And the best part? It's impossible to accidentally overdo it. I'm betting we'll see fewer ER visits related to GLP-1s because of this new packaging.

My guess is they're trying to stop people from prescribing 10mg or 15mg vials and then having patients only use part of the vial to make it last longer and save money.

Not that anyone here would know anything about splitting doses... 😉

Let's not overlook the main thing...they lost a LOT of money to compounding pharmacies cause weight loss coverage disappeared.
This is their attempt to get that cash back.
What bothers me is that we KNOW that what we're paying for from overseas is marked up and making money. I mean the mark up from compounds and medspas...Lilly could've come in lower and raked in the 💸...I think they let greed get a hold and missed the mark

Big pharma will probably do everything possible to shut down compounding, research vendors, imports, etc. - it makes sense, since they're losing revenue to Ely Lilly.

About the price difference between getting it directly from overseas versus buying it through a pharmaceutical company, there's no way Ely Lilly could match the prices you pay, even for their baseline costs. They probably can't even produce it for what some domestic vendors sell it for. They have strict regulations, testing requirements, supply chain requirements, facility requirements, plus a huge organization. All of this overhead significantly increases the price. They also have to recoup the money they invest in R&D and manufacturing, which can easily exceed 10 billion. So, you can't really compare the prices you get from overseas.

Just saying, it's a business, and their goal is to make money, not to help people. But they *did* develop this for us, so there's no reason to hate them for it 🙂

And like you said, people are wary of getting medicine from outside official sources. So, Ely Lilly probably isn't being dumb, and their pricing probably reflects the optimal price point for maximizing profits.

Even domestic vendors have higher purchase costs than the prices you see coming out of China. They have overhead, too, and they might not always go for the cheapest options because reliability and safety are more important than saving a few bucks per vial if they want to keep their operations running smoothly.

It's up to each person to decide which option works best for them.

Personally, I think compound pharmacies and med spas will be the ones to disappear first (if anyone does). They're the biggest revenue leak for Ely Lilly because they operate within the law and prescriptions.

I heard Ozempic is impacting Weight Watchers, that they might be filing for bankruptcy! Did anyone here have success with WW?

I did WW ages ago, like maybe 12 years? I dropped about 15 pounds but it didn't last. They were always pushing their pre-made meals, scales, etc. And I didn't like that you had to pay even if you skipped a week. They talk about accountability, but it felt more like they just wanted your money. I'm sure it's gotten worse since then. Happy for anyone it helped, but I was glad to get away from tracking 'points'.

I went to only one WW meeting. All anyone did was talk about food, then line up to buy overpriced processed snacks. I left feeling more depressed than before.

Ozempic has helped me understand my hunger cues, it helped me listen to my body when I'm hungry or full. It decreased my blood glucose, cholesterol, and fatty liver. I felt great, and never needed to obsess over food!

No wonder WW might be done.

I saw an article that generic versions might be available in Canada within the next year. Wonder how that would affect Wegovy use.

2mg became standard from the egrifta HIV research, so it's the go-to now. The 5 on, 2 off schedule works out great for those 10mg bottles in that dosage range. Some folks prefer 1mg instead. Getting your IGF-1 checked beforehand and after helps track how well you're doing on it.

That approach definitely works. I've heard of people who transfer the medication into a clean vial and then pull their dose with an insulin syringe. Smart way to reuse the pens.

Half-life is pretty quick so dosing gets interesting. I've never heard of a practical toxicology ceiling for single dose amounts either.
